Kladivo and Veliki vrh - Košuta

On Saturday start from Matizovec in the rain towards Kofce. Luckily the rain stopped, direction Planina Šija and onwards to the top of Kladivo, which we summited in one hour and thirty minutes from Šija. Views unfortunately somewhat worse due to fog. Followed the ridge path to Veliki vrh and then along the circular path to Kofce and after a well-deserved beer back to the vehicle at Matizovec. The hike is very nice, so I recommend it to everyone who likes ridge wanderings.

Yesterday Saturday start at wooden road hut in Vranček, past pl. Korošica to Hanževo sedlo, via climbing route to V. Vrh, from there along nice ridge path to Kladiva. Then descended directly on unmarked but trodden trail to pl. Šija, from there to valley past shelter Kal and farm Zavašnik to AP Tržič. Call taxi (wife) to pick me up and drive to my steel horse.

Count in nice weather about 5-6h. Depends a lot on how fit you are.

Kofce-V.Vrh-Kladivo-Škrbina...all the way to Košutnikov turn we took 6 hours exactly 20min, but you really have to hurry a bit! winking

Yesterday circular tour Mrzli studenec- Kofce-V.Vrh-Veliko Kladivo-Škrbina-planina Pungart and back to Kofce. Nice circular tour, views occasionally obscured by fog. Path is normally passable without problems, planine Kofce, Šija and Pungrat are full of spring flowers.

Only the path from Škrbina to Planina Pungrat is impassable due to a landslide, so go carefully.

Mate07, that won't hold. The path is newly arranged and marked, checked yesterday, but it's true they fixed it some days ago, because the scree and landslide were newly dug out. lp

, what is missing you can add, last photo - sickleweed, 3rd - Clusius' primrose, by the gentian common catchfly and then Wulfen's gentian.

During the week it's often nicer than on weekends, there is less crowding and you can enjoy nature even more. The professor in botany is like that, you always learn something new and I'm glad about that, because you learn throughout your whole life and thanks for the info.

I walked almost the entire Košuta, most people were on Veliki vrh because it's also the easiest path, on the east of Košuta there was solitude, met first after 2 hours 1 mountaineer, then 3 foreigners, in the afternoon two more hikers at Škrbina.

The ridge of Košuta always attracts, eastern or western, to the north steep, rugged, seems impassable and already somewhat menacing and shows a completely different face on the sunny side, where its steep grasses hang over into alpine pasture. Crossing these wonderful plateaus is pure pleasure. Lost in thoughts on the hardiness of the Slovenian peasant who had to be shepherd, forester, hunter to survive here through centuries his poor life, you return to the starting point all too quickly...

Nice day, nice tour, you go home richer...

... or wherever. Captivated by the beauty, you step towards the ridge.

To VV, where the views turn towards the west, it was not far anymore

I too walked this path yesterday, possible we met. I join your thoughts, it really is wonderful. Animal diversity can also be felt, I myself ran into a viper between Kladivo and Šija smile

On Friday start at Matizovec. Then Veliki vrh and along the ridge to Veliko Kladivo, descent to planina Šija and there well-deserved beer. Super tour, only the weather wasn't the best. Could see little. No matter, next time better. zmeden

No more snow on Veliki vrh - if anyone's interested. Was up yesterday from Matthausna past pl. Korošica and Hajnževo sedlo via ferrata and then down to Kofce past Kala and Dolžanova soteska.
Joining the predecessors... extremely nice tour and nice part of Slovenia.

Today's afternoon tour from planina Šija to Kladivo and then over Kofcov vrh to Veliki vrh. Descent via Kofce back to planina Šija. Go to the picturesque Dolžanova soteska at Jelendol and up the hill on mountain gravel road. Road bad to turn-off for Kofce. Recommend only with off-roader. Then good to planina Pungrat. From planina Pungrat to hut at planina Šija bad again. Since afternoon short I used it, otherwise not recommend. Behind hut left to Škrbina saddle and at saddle right to vrh Kladiva. From Kladivo descend and along ridge path over Kofcev vrh to Veliki vrh. Descended to Kofce and after twenty minutes at Šija. No rain, but clouds threatened.

Quite steeply up towards Škrbina saddle.

Now along the ridge over Kofcev vrh to Veliki vrh. - Kofcev vrh

For descent to Kofce there is even a wire rope.

Good decision regarding weather, car left just before Ljubelj, direct to saddle between Košuta (Baba) and Veliki vrh, up without aid of protections, along ridge to Kladivo and back once more to Veliki vrh, down climbing path and quick to Korošica, path ok, aids OK. Weather barely held, could have really soaked me.
