Darinka, this time we were almost together, you at the celebration at Krnsko jezero, us at Krn. Exactly at twelve we arrived at the top, when the salute was heard from the lake. We were also at the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI in 2018.
This time from Planina Kuhinja to Gomiščkovo zavetišče. The path was still dry yesterday, just have to overcome the elevation...At the shelter I noticed the memorial plaque for Ervin Gomišček, who died in 1950, only 28 years old while scouting the site for the shelter. Sad, he slipped on an icy slab.
On Saturday, despite high clouds, very good visibility. We could see to the sea, from Gradež towards Venice. And Matajur, Kobariški Stol, all the way to the Dolomites. At the top view of Batognica, Vrh na Peski, and vistas to Triglav. At the top reminiscing about past ascents to Krn, 2244 m, from different directions. Sleeping in the shelter is great too, when the lights turn on in the valley.
Really beautiful views, at one point you could see Krnsko jezero, Soča and all the way to the sea, insanely good. On the planina we picked some rose hips, but no cheese. In Vrsnem we went to Simon Gregorčič's birthplace. The book about his life, work in Kobarid, Dragojila... I always have it at hand. Soča, you beautiful clear daughter of the mountains....
In Tolmin we treated ourselves to something warm and coffee, as we were on the go all day. This was probably the last two-thousander this year, 1,300m elevation gain.
