Has anyone gone to Krn from Planina Kuhinje? Is the trail snow-free?

Check the webcam picture tomorrow; probably at least to the hut on snow-free ground, but it's true that snow can linger longer on the trail itself.

Planinka74 in your place (without winter gear) I'd rather wait a bit longer. Good luck and best regards

Yesterday my colleague and I did a varied and ornithologically colored ascent to Krn from Kuhinja. The trail is of course (for quite some time) completely snow-free, we saw hikers also on the Silva Korena trail. The day was wonderful, the morning colorful bird assembly around Zaslap pasture was concluded at noon by hawks. I'm attaching some photos from last year for snow condition comparison (last year I was up there 3.6.).

You'll wish for it yet, if you set off.

It has lasted too long to keep lasting; there will soon be a barrier at pl. Kuhinja: https://www.facebook.com/317233614975421/photos/a.317275691637880/5546184815413582/

Let them all nicely fence it off........ but then let someone guard the parking lots too, so we'll have cars safe from thieves. zavijanje z očmi

Ah panda, you said that as if someone guards your car on parking lots in Ljubljana streets, on Bled, in Bohinj or Kranjska Gora until you come back for it. velik nasmeh

Elsewhere, where they have some sense, it still lasts and I hope it will continue. That someone guards the parking we can only dream of; it's better to sell air. As for myself, I know that if I park with crooks, then I don't spend a single cent there!

Miran, excellent starting point! In the Dolomites parking is mostly free. In Austria, too, often. And the guest happily drinks and eats more... But if the guest already feels ripped off upon parking...(yes, it applies to me too).

I remember last August when I went with neighbor to Krn - then parking was possible along the road before the parking lot. Then they put up a sign that it's no longer allowed there because it's under TNP. I met Boštjan Manfreda who told me they would put up a barrier and uniform price 10 euros for parking. Looks like it happened. I didn't even believe him then. We'll see how it works out. The parking meter they took to the valley in winter.

korl: on most paid parking lots you can't claim damages for break-in or vehicle damage from the parking operator (checked 3x on my own skin). Easiest to cash in, no obligations, typical Slovenian. zmeden

@trobec
I don't agree with your statement, I'd change it to mostly paid, same in Austria too.
But maybe it's true, along which dog kennels you walked.

Carnic Alps are more or less free even where there's quite some visitors (alpine pastures, say). Western Julians similar. Why isn't Pecol 20€ per day since it's incomparably nicer than Blato? Road to Bistriška planina under Ojstrnik for example free, and there in summer whoa, lots of people. And more could be found.

One thing is agreeing or disagreeing, the other are facts nasmeh
Dolomites in the near and somewhat farther surroundings of Cortina I walked and drove the length and breadth of; actually there are quite few huts where I haven't been yet. And parking I paid exactly 1x. And even there it would be free with half an hour more walk.

In the Dolomites and Carnic Alps I have about 150 tours and I know I paid at three locations. At Kreutzberg Pass at the hotel, in Moss at Dolomitenhof and under Pic di Vallandro. Really expensive tolls and parking at Rifugio Auronzo shouldn't be compared to our places. In the Carnic Alps so far I paid only toll 6eur for access to Rif. Pordenone -12km road paid on weekends and whole August. But they know how to charge decently in huts and farm tourism but I had feeling sales are running there too....

From my experience in Italian Alps parking is mostly free. Also no tolls (eco taxes). I mean Dolomites, Carnic Alps, Julians. So far I came across paid parking only at Passo Gardena).

But there are paid tolls in Austria; Dobratsch, Grossglockner, Ojstrnik near Železna Kapla etc.).
Under Polinik (Austria-above Gailtal) parking is free.
