@skala123 super pics!
Can one plan an ascent to Mala Mojstrovka from Vršič for Saturday 12.3.? Interested due to avalanche uncertainty, they say there will be sun.

Thanks in advance for your comments and greetings from Croatia smile

In the Julian Alps, over half a meter of new snow is expected, this week it will cool and further slow the snow transformation. Higher up, due to wind, reckon on wind slabs and ridge cornices, in the mountains due to lots of new snow even on skis it is harder to progress. Snow in drifts to the waist and over, so foot progress even with a group quite impaired. For better conditions in the high mountains, wait for sunny days, but this week none in sight, a bit on Friday, but all too little for stabilizing the thick snowpack. Nights for deep freezing of new snow must be well below zero.
4th degree avalanche danger will therefore continue to threaten.

I agree with viharnik... until Wednesday bad weather with snowfall is forecasted, so the snow will hardly bond by the weekend... Mojstrovka is especially treacherous regarding avalanches...

On Kredarica there is already half a meter of new snow now, in the coming days expect another around 20 to 30 cm.
In future, only conditionally safe will be visits to the forested mid-mountain up to ~1500 m with smaller slope inclinations. Even Komna under the Pekel cliff could be dangerous. The zero isotherm is today at 1300 m, so in case of less new snow, Komna will be passable in a few days.

Today on Mala via Župančičeva and Pripravniška.

Snow was hard in the morning, good for climbing. Everything that could slide did slide. Snow is melting fast... in the last week at least half a meter has melted. Župančičeva is steeper at the end than usual.
Above Pripravniška gully there is a huge slab that could go... careful.

Skiing down both routes was perfect, we hit the zero hour. After the avalanche, classic south wind.

Welcome to the blog! smile

Today I went with PD Škofja Loka on a winter tour to Little Mojstrovka. The road to Vršič Pass from Kranjska Gora direction is dry and normally drivable. Parking lot at the top of Vršič Pass is cleared. Weather was a bit moody. High cloud cover was showing. At the start of the path the peaks on our route were nicely visible. Lots of snow. It was south-facing - air temperature around ten degrees Celsius. Footprints were already made. In places still sinking in. Went directly over scree - steeply up. To the saddle you're already a bit tired. After saddle strong wind blew and raged to the top. Summit was already in fog. We quickly returned to the valley. Down we went express, of course. We literally overran the footprints. For refreshment we went a bit below the pass top to the friendly hut.

Some photos from today's visit to Little Mojstrovka. The day was gorgeous, which offered wonderful views. There's still quite some snow. In the morning snow was frozen (winter gear needed), on return, it softened a bit. Nice regards

I was on the Big one, but conditions are similar. (they were yesterday).

Snow starts already at Vršič so you can ski from car to car. Routes in Little Mojstrovka except Pripravniška are not groomed... lower part of Župančičeva is groomed, but summit part is rocky. Path over Grebenec is normal.

Snow base varies... slush/ice so unpleasant. I skied towards Little Mojstrovka then through Pripravniška, but misjudged the jump and tumbled down the whole gully.. Not interesting therefore. On the slide some good turns can be found.

Tomorrow conditions will of course be completely different, up there it's blowing nasmeh)

Today heavy snowing, visibility poor (or zero), road access from below Mihov dom as road impassable. Snow accumulated fast - first very wet, then corn snow, then snow and again corn snow. Avalanche conditions mildly put very unfavorable. Temp dropped in one hour from 0°C to -5°C, higher probably lower. Combined with strong wind gusts and very frequent thunder interesting but not best experience around here.

On the day off work on Wednesday - that's the Day of the Struggle Against the Occupier, Nejc, Rok and I fought each in our own way. Not quite in such sad historical (wartime) circumstances, but in equally serious ones: symphony of wind with heavy snowfall, ice and roar of avalanches. This year even richer orchestral ensemble - with tearing sound of lightning strikes and thunder ...

Yesterday we were chasing probably the last enjoyable fresh snow of this year... and so at 3.30 we drove towards Vršič, where we parked at Šrauf's cairns.
Our Actionmam group had five: Matej, Primož, Klemen, Anže and me, the first confidently set the direct track towards Grebenec... the rest catching up as best they could nasmeh) Matej, Klemen and Primož skied from Great Mojstrovka towards Little, apparently the descent was good! Anže and I went towards Little at a more photographic pace. And experienced one of the most wintry days of the season in our mountains... Strong gusts of wind, light snowfall and fog created winter despite spring.
Descent from MM was OK, slightly hard but just right for long turns and a few pics! The group of five met at the saddle above Vratci and skied together on the best possible slush towards the cars.

Today Klemen, Anže and I went again to those parts, but to the NE side of MM, where we skied the right variant of Pozabljene. Snow in the couloir real Chamonix, below it quickly turns to concrete, which on the avalanche above Vršič turns into crusty slush...

The road yesterday, right after our arrival at the cars (luck, some unfortunately didn't have it) they plowed to the top, today the grader was working and the road will soon be ''publicly'' open.

Best,
Simon
