Thanks - triglavski; it says the road is already closed due to snowy road surface - not quite sure if it's true. We'll check tomorrow, nice weekend everyone and safe step

I think Sunday will be more suitable for the mountains.

On Saturday we plan to go to Mangart, maybe someone knows if the road from Trbiž to mangart saddle is also closed, because on http://www.promet.si/ it says the road is still closed from Bovec side, due to snowy road surface... lp

There is only one road to Mangart saddle and it is officially closed. But you can drive to its start below Predel pass from Bovec or Trbiž direction.

I'm always worried when someone doesn't even know how to get to the starting point, but wants to go straight to the third-fourth highest mountain and that in winter conditions. I too one year at Belošpeški lakes ran into some people who had on the car a reg. plate with LJ mark... and at Belopeški lakes were looking for the road to mangart saddle.

And they probably go up the Via Italiana in sneakers too

G-triglavski and g.bošte I just nicely asked if the road is closed or not, I know there's only one, I've been to Mangart twice and not in sneakers, and we're not even from LJ... so don't be too smart... g triglavski- now you'll say you never looked for a road when you wanted to reach a goal for the first time.....

alesh74, my principle is to first ask the hut warden by phone... then the one who posted the news and... if I get the answer that the road to Mangart is closed then it's closed no matter from which side you come... so don't get angry even if you're from LJ, CE, MB, GO, KR or wherever...

Kozorog, I'm not angry.... otherwise just write that it's closed and that's it..

Alesh74, why then this question if you know that the road to Mangart Saddle is only one? "On Saturday we plan to go to Mangart, maybe someone knows if the road from Trbiž to Mangart Saddle is also closed, because on http://www.promet.si/ it says the road is still closed from the Bovec side due to a snow-covered road surface..." And now you're getting upset at triglavski, kozorog... You asked as if you have no idea where what is.

alesh74, I'm not sir, if I were, you should call me sir, of course I already looked for the road to the starting point when I went the first time, but you wrote that you were there twice already, and apparently it's still not quite clear to you where to go.

Between morning and afternoon showers I jumped up to Mangart to see how it is with the warning signs about the closure of the Slovenian path, now when the road will open soon and visits increase. At the saddle the sign is poorly readable and thus useless, those at the junction for the Slovenian I didn't find at all because it's still deep under snow, on the Italian path, of which at least half is still under snow I had no problems, but without ice axe safely even on this path it's not possible to the top. So once again to everyone, without ice axe don't go on this path, if it cools a few more degrees even without crampons it won't go. As many times before, this time too Mangart enveloped in fog welcomed me at the top with sun. Descent went faster because a new front was approaching from the west, and also the football match was nearing, although football never excited me. About 6-meter snowdrifts, of course no traces and as usual they had here: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/56612/ too big eyes.

Igor I'm interested how far you drove along the road and if the traffic ban still applies on it?

Bravo Igor for the nice tour, despite unpredictable weather. The road is completely dry as can be seen from the pictures. Today I also thought of going over Žrelo to Storžič but changed my mind. Football doesn't excite me either, but we cheered nationally in the nearby pub with gas horns and Slovenian flag with the neighbor who is a frequent guest. The atmosphere was wonderful, only no passerby dared closer. Lp!

They didn't have overly high expectations. When the snow was being removed behind the last tunnel, the wall was quite a bit more than 6 m high. You need to go see it during the action and not when it's all over.

Although someone some time ago destroyed every shred of my will for work on mountain paths (expecting public apology), I finally went today to inspect the Slovenian path on Mangart and carried up also new summit logbook. I started according to GRS and PZS recommendations quite late, only at noon. At the entrance to Slovenian route clear signs of closed path, unfortunately some don't even know where the Italian path runs. In the gully there's still one snowfield, which can be crossed only with ice axe, exposed spot by rockfall needs to be climbed (5m II.) higher under the shoulder another snowfield impossible to avoid, similarly more snowfields from shoulder onwards. As I wrote at the start I put new logbook in the box, then quickly headed to saddle as it was already thundering in distance. Some weren't bothered by that and continued up Italian path, despite well-meant advice to turn back they didn't pay much heed, so later got properly soaked. Boris who managed to turn 300m below summit and with whom we descended together to saddle stayed dry. Monitoring weather events in mountains is still Spanish village to some, and quick retreat to safe shelter they don't master either. On Italian path still some snowfields, track made, sometimes even off summer path, so appropriate gear (ice axe) definitely not superfluous. When repair of Slovenian starts, will decide in LJ.

Adding also my today's observation....some youngsters (by speech Czechs and Hungarians) today crawled up the Italian in regular gym shoes. I think they had quite some luck crossing snowfields that no slip happened. Most of their older compatriots were well equipped. But people pushing among rocks when thunderstorms are forecast, that's another story.

We too were on Mangart on Sunday. Of course, caution is needed on snow and wet rocks. But impressive abundance of flowers along the path. Since we were early, during thunderstorm we were already at lunch Some photos are at http://www.petersfoto.si/
