Mangart

Today we did a nice loop route on Mangart. Up the Slovenian path down the Italian path. Then we headed to the eastern ridge of Mala Špica from which there's a beautiful view of Mangart. On the Slovenian path the cable is broken in two sections (rope installed), which doesn't hinder the ascent itself. Nice regards.

If you're doing it in the morning you don't have much choice to conquer a peak over 2500 and return to the car still in daylight nasmeh....either drive to Vršič or to Mangart saddle velik nasmeh

What am I hearing now that you can't get to the starting point by car anymore? Can someone clarify the situation better? Last year it was still possible without issues...

No changes since last year. The road has been closed for about 5 years, I think, in the last section due to falling rock danger.

The road to Mangart saddle is OFFICIALLY CLOSED IN THE LAST SECTION due to falling rocks, which means unofficially and at own risk you can drive to the saddlenasmeh.

I'm interested if you can drive to Mangart by car? And what are the conditions like on the Slovenian path to the top of Mangart.uroš

Up the Slovenian ridge, a bit on snow, some off-trail to avoid it and you're at the top. On the Italian one there's a bit more snow with nice steps.

I plan to go on Wednesday. So how much snow on the Slovenian? A little like in picture 1 and 2 so it can be nicely crossed or does it pose more danger somewhere.
And is the road to the saddle drivable or not? Thanks for the answer:

Even this time the early hour proved to be the right decision. At Mlinč I start in light fog with snowfall, at the top of the saddle under Rateški Mangart where I leave the skis and the sun comes out. From there on foot to the summit (up the right variant of the winter route and down the left). Wading the icy crust sprinkled with fresh snow wasn't enjoyable at all, but it helped for quick descent to the skis. Skiing very pleasant all the way to the start.

Had to check out Mangart again. Up the winter route via right gully, exit far left from summit. Snow was very rotten and allowed great ski descent right after sunrise.
I didn't wait for sunrise because it was blowing too hard1

Hi.

I'd like to bike to Mangart saddle. Does anyone know if the road is snow-free?

Thanks for reply.

Official page says this:

Notice: Due to rockfall and resulting danger of falling stones and larger rocks on the road in area below Rdeča skala, driving on the last 3 km of Mangart road is unsafe. Road closed there! Traffic prohibited from barrier onward for all vehicles and pedestrians!

Since there was quite some inquiry on ZS about road conditions and providing EXPERT info on the forum, reality is:
by car to the first tunnel, by bike to the last one but in between you need to carry the bike at least over three easy snowfields. I wish you pleasant cycling and mountaineeringvelik nasmeh
In one month it will be dry1

What luck that we have on hribi.net such a highly qualified expert like Bruno Vencelj, who not only knows the situation on the path to Mangart saddle even better than PZS, AMZS and all living and non-living people, but also knows the professional qualification of individual forum members. Thanks again for the expert opinion.

8.5. on Mangart. As @MANGRT said, by car to first tunnel (1450m asl), probably snow will soon allow driving to ca 1650m asl, where rockslide blocks the road.
Up via gully then right, down same but turned to Italian before chimney. Trampled everywhere.
Be careful, snow is rotten. In gully conditions were super that day.
