Mangart

Yesterday my colleague Bojč and I took a day off and since he hadn't been to Mangart yet, we headed there. Quite a drive from Styria, km too, but out of Ljubljana before the morning rush hour. At the starting point we were at 7.30. Nice weather, good mood too, full gear and start. An adult ibex surprises us right away under the saddle, poses for a while, then disappears. Later we spot it on a ledge where it grazes contentedly. From the saddle at the start of the scree a substantial snowfield, but with caution no problem following the footsteps of predecessors. On the traverse three short snowfields no problem. At the top views limited only to Jalovec, Loška stena, Rombon, Jerebica, Kanin slopes and Montaž, on the other side Dobrač, behind Ponca nothing more visible towards očaku. Shame. At the top warm and windless, we do the register entry, take photos for memory, snack a bit and after 1 hour descent to the starting point. I surprise Bojč with a view of the Belopeška Lakes from the other side, where at the upper lake he experiences a truly magnificent view of the Mangart ridge. He just can't believe the majesty of the mountain massif. On the way we also visit the PZS museum in Mojstrana, first time for both. The biggest impression on me is the thunderstorm simulation in the wooden bivouac, where I relive the night thunderstorm in Vrata a few years ago when I overnighted at Aljažev dom. Followed by the drive home, late lunch on the way and conclusion of the full-day trip.

Today 6.7. I went up and down the Italian route. No snow except the snowfield below, which is not steep and has no dangerous runout.

Today was also car-free day on Mangart. Balm for nice views without tin cans, even the squealing girls seemed to squeal more to me. The car was replaced by a free bus.

Right at the upper "bus stop" grows narrow-helmeted aconite, beautiful but very poisonous plant. Interestingly, a friendly cyclist taught us that its antidote is belladonna, otherwise also very poisonous plant.

No one has replied to Primozz_94 yet, but anyway - does anyone know the condition of the path from Loška Koritnica?

Based on this notice, the path must be fine!

@Primozz_94...you're probably thinking of the Čez Jačke trail, which goes under Rdeča skala at the start.
We tackled it with bikes. Two years ago. It was in ok condition then. The only problem is the large amount of "greenery" in the middle part, where the only visible orientation marker is the red-white stake.
In the photo Rdeča skala is nicely visible in the background. From the cyclist onwards there are still a couple of well-visible turns, then the path disappears into the mentioned greenery. From the stake onwards it's fully traceable again. Hope I helped a bit.

Primozz_94 probably had, like me, this path in mind. So from Loška Koritnica in the direction of Kotova špica and then the approach to Mangart from the east.

Back then he was probably asking because of snow. Now it's clear there's no more. What else could be a problem, I don't know. Good luck

Yesterday 20.7. to Mangart via Slovenian route, descent via Italian. Slovenian route without issues, towards end of Italian we cross small snowfield. Path over snowfield is trodden but slightly slippery.

This patch isn't so dangerous as it's not exposed. More annoying is the crowd on the terribly worn Italian route.

On Friday after a long time on Mangart. I decided for access from the valley and Italian side. Belopeški lakes - Bivak Nogara - saddle - Italian route - Mangart and back the same path. To Nogara it was quite varied. First stuffiness and humidity and wet grass and path - due to rain the previous evening. So the ascent was quite demanding due to the slipperiness of the path. From Nogara up it was much better. From saddle to top mostly all dry. Huge crowd of people, of course also many tourists with inappropriate gear. At the top beautiful view, no wind and warm - finally once also on Mangart. Descent much friendlier, as the path had dried and grip was very good. Nice tour and finally conquered Mangart more from the valley. Approach also much shorter than expected, good three hours of walking.
The valley and lower lake still under fog, Dobrač already out of it.1
Everywhere moisture and dampness.2
That gully was all day as if smeared with grease.3

On a holiday after ten years back to Mangart, don't know if that's a lot or littlenasmeh, but via the Slovenian path it was certainly the first time this time, at least for menasmeh.
But such a large crowd surely wasn't there at the last visit of this mountain, it seemed to me like almost everyone was gathered herenasmeh. Like "God's path" it seemed to me, but that applies more to the Italian path, which we took back. If we say Slovenian is more demanding, then Italian is certainly more scenic. View from Ponca to Jalovec is something that still stirs my imagination today, so much unknown yet desirable in betweennasmeh.

On the way back we went over Travniški preval to Travnik too, to get to know up close the real name of this hill, since last year from Kopa we admired its beautiful meadows.

Then we walked along the edge of Mangart saddle to check all possible descents to the Italian side. Most attractive was the descent Čez jezik or called Forcella della Lavina. Apparently quite a wild descent, over Plazje maybe better known.

For a moment we went to the hut, stopped a couple of times at the edge of the road too, since afternoon sun has its charm, and mountains glow like in another time. Also nice at Mangart pasture, at Rabeljsko lake we stopped just for short foot soakingnasmeh. Otherwise no swimming.

ločanka, nice photo presentation, which -as usual with you- is also interesting, since it differs in emphases and observations from ordinary mountain visitors. Even a nice bunch of Julian poppies and clustered stonecress found their place among mountain peaks. Already looking forward to some new feat of yours in these mountains, which maybe as an idea was born in your head right at today's Mangart visit. bestnasmeh

On Sunday fulfilled dear one's wish and we headed to Mangart saddle. From there we descended towards Belopeška lakes and a little before bivouac Nagro turned right and quickly we were at the entrance to the secured climbing path. We were on Via Italiana already last yearnasmehbut the path is wonderful, wish is wish. From the saddle to the summit via Slovenian path, descent then via Italian. At the start we just barely overtook a group of some 25 people and luckily avoided the crowd.mežikanje
