Attaching the bus timetable, meeting on the road isn't easy.

Don't forget the masks!

Yesterday we were on Mangart. We went to the top via Slovenian, descent via Italian route. Paths and protections are in good condition. Weather was favorable and offered nice views, and mists weren't lacking either.

Same yesterday. Early morning without mists and clouds. Leeward side already hot in the morning, in shade and wind comfortable in long sleeves. Via Italiana still empty in the morning, later quite crowded. Slovenian normal, Italian for return heavily crowded. Protections everywhere OK. You meet all sorts in that Italian crowd...

Nejc,
where exactly does the descent from Mangart Saddle to Bivak Nogare start?
Regards. Venčeslav.

At the saddle on the W side of Mali Rateški Mangart. Clearly visible path on steep grass on our side, then you climb over the wire fence for sheep (also the state border ;-) ) and along the clearly visible path to the bivouac, which you can see from the top with its red roof and large H on the boulder above it. If there's fog, be careful to descend relatively straight along the path, then the path crosses slightly right to the bivouac.
Good luck!

Hi!
Could someone tell me which more famous paths can be compared in difficulty to the Slovenian path on Mangart? And is the use of a helmet and via ferrata set mandatory?

If you mean walking such paths without a helmet.. Better stay home. Invest those 50€ and you have itzavijanje z očmi
There are lots of people in the mountains, loose rocks aplenty too.. First sort this out and then make plans.

Nothing of the listed is mandatory. But it's all very smart. A helmet is today really almost as classic a part of gear as the shoe. Wherever you are in an area of possible falling rocks (and there's plenty in our hills), nowadays being without it is total carelessness. And also elsewhere, where upon a fall (even seemingly easy) there's a chance of head injuries, it doesn't hurt at all, on the contrary, it gives a good feeling. Anyway, today's ones are so comfortable you don't even know you have it up there. The full kit is a matter of ability, judgment, path type. Depends on who and where. And also when. Our feelings aren't the same every day. If the path has enough cables and exposure is such that for our skills we need self-belay, we use it. For a beginner that means always and everywhere possible. Even for a couple of meters, like e.g. on Razor. Then kilometers and years of experience bring their own and each time we weigh it... The decision is ours.
Hard to compare such paths among themselves. Each has its specifics and each of us perceives them differently. Someone moves without issue in crumbly terrain, for another it's the biggest torment... Take the guide Zavarovane plezalne poti by Sidarta (Mašer), look for similar difficulty and you'll find material in stock. But, as I said, it's not copy-paste, each is different. And that's exactly the charm.
One more thing. Whoever isn't sure, doesn't know, is a beginner..., let them get/organize at least for the start someone beside them who already has a kilometer in such world. Mountaineering is a way of life, not a fad of the times.
Go with will, courage and brains. Good luck!

Hi.
I'm interested in the current conditions on Mangart? On Saturday we plan to go up the Slovenian and down the Italian. Has anyone been in the last days? Has it really snowed and how much? Is winter gear needed or OK without?
If the Slovenian needs winter gear, probably both ways Italian. OK like that?
Thanks for the info and best,
Miha

GRS Bovec helped on Mangart

At 17.47 below Mangart summit, Bovec municipality, at around 2660m a German female hiker got stuck, didn't dare descend due to bad weather and snow. Activated GRS Bovec mountain rescuers arrived around 21.00. Hiker uninjured but hypothermic and unable to walk. 16 GRS Bovec rescuers carried her on stretcher to Mangart saddle, handed over to NMP Tolmin rescuers around 3.00.

Thanks for the reply.

I've already seen in the paper the news about rescuing the German hiker, that's why I asked if anyone was there and knows the conditions. From that news no real picture, rescues happen mid-summer too when conditions are fine. Could have health issues, poor mental or physical shape, wrong shoes, went late, storm caught her,... So again, does anyone know the path conditions?

@redbull: I don't get what you're hinting at?

Don't misunderstand me, I don't want to seem like a hotshot, I just want more info to decide on the trip's suitability regarding my condition and my companions'. If conditions not suitable for our skill level we definitely won't push up.

Thanks, best,
