You go to the Belopeška lakes and go to Mangart saddle past Nogara, also possible via Plazje gully. Slovenian route is out, at the Italian you'll see if there's still snow on the ledge. For the traverse there's surely no more up to the summit, it's the south side. If you think it's not suitable for you then walk a bit more if it's not enough. Already from Belopeška you can see if there's snow on the ledge. Draga's, Urban's answer is in place. Good luck

The fact is, the answer was inappropriate. I myself thought if half a meter of snow fell or some work action.
Winter gear also includes gaiters or Goretex boots. Since I'm going too, and I

We put on skis already before the forest, a bit above the lake. Snow was hard and at that time even a pedestrian could ascend without sinking over the entire Plazje. There's really lots of snow this year. Heavenly coverage towards Mangart, all possible routes doable in good base which is now absolutely the case. Skis on back, crampons on and on hard base to winter couloir, where on the left side we left skis. In this couloir only powder, some trampling for the first, higher already harder. Haven't done such a good ascent as this before. Weather was fairy-tale. Descent of course by ascent route, no need to go Italian or toplot. We skied much lower, of course, so some "stomping" back up to Plazje gully entrance. Snow had softened, so quite nice skiing at moments. For relaxing finish it's nice to pedal a bit more.

Again we missed each other by a hair. In the afternoon I went to check with binoculars if someone skinned up the scree or from the top (I saw that some had descended the gully between Kopo and Bukovnik); on the trail opposite the stream, 50 meters before the main road, I saw 2 "biathletes" bike & ski , aha, wait a bit, I'll check on the hill if those 2 are the right ones  well done, pics always o.k.

Sunday was nothing special, snow shower at the top, huge amounts of snow, conditions for walking with wading through snow. Skiing from under the chimney to the valley was excellent.

What's the current status of Mangart road? Somewhere I read there's a vehicle counter at the start of the road and entry is forbidden if too many vehicles...
