They need to be put up (the crosses namely) because the red star has completely fried the brains of numerous Butalistanis and the damage just needs to be repaired somehow. 20 years ago there were no crosses because we lived in "democratic Stalinism" where some would like to return. But I realize it's hard to explain to people trained like German shepherds.

Obviously Austrians have their brains even more messed up than from communism, because new crosses grow there almost like mushrooms after rain.

Those bothered by crosses across the European Alps are probably also bothered by prayer flags and wheels in Nepal and Tibet. Or not? They bother the Chinese. Europe is traditionally Christian, just like Nepal is Buddhist... And spirituality has always somehow been present in the mountains, lots of people seek and find inner peace there, turn to higher powers for help too... And so, live and let live... Sorry in advance and - Namaste, God with you, whichever and by whatever name.

Crosses (and prayer flags and Aljaž towers etc etc) should at least be placed a bit lower than the summit, not right on top. The summit should really remain unspoiled and somehow sacred - but not in the sense of any religion.

Hello forumers.
I've read the last few pages of this forum with interest on the topic of the cross conquered by an enthusiastic hiker girl. Also saw the picture a few days ago - it was pretty good. No misunderstanding: I have deep respect for crosses and similar symbols, as they mean a lot to me.
I'm chiming in to contribute something to this topic myself. It's right for opinions to clash. It would be terribly wrong if everyone here praised or condemned the mentioned act. Everyone has the right to their opinion, as it's the only right one for them at that moment. Others must respect it too.
Such diverse opinions usually stem from some ignorance or lack of knowledge. For something to happen, it has a cause for sure. Just need to know it, then it's easier to understand the act.
Some are bothered by man-made structures on our summits. I suggest putting a plaque next to each marker explaining why and since when it's there. That way we'll all better understand the current situation.
One more thing: before I started seriously hiking in mountains, stone piles along or on mountain paths terribly bothered me, placed by someone without any sense for aesthetics and architecture. Only later I learned they are cairns showing the right path.
In closing, I wish you all nice weather and unforgettable experiences in our beautiful mountains.

As far as I'm concerned, climbing various Aljaž towers, crosses,... is monkey business at best. It's also destruction of others' property. What if everyone climbed up?
As for whether it's appropriate to have them up there or not, I don't mind. Nice to have something there, not just to mark the summit but also to make it more interesting. Be it tower, cross, tower model, just a box...
Austrians have almost only crosses on summits, that's already a bit monotonous. With us it's more varied and that's good.

 Morning at Jezercih the car dashboard already reminded me of +4C.
Up to the top of Kalški greben bushes quite wet, rocks on the path slippery, fog in the summit area that you cut through, occasionally the wind blew a moment of sun, up top occasional cold easterly gusts already typical for winter, at home still summer. Only a couple of hikers on Vrh Korena, met Garmont on Kalški. Cross is waterproof 3x oiled and covered with stones without iron to withstand lightning strikes. Parking lot also almost empty in the afternoon

It'd be good to carry it down ASAP before folks get used to it so no yelling about desecration. This is really the limit what some allow themselves! Only Ku Klux Klan guys put up crosses so shamelessly and even they stopped I think.

No matter it's a Christian cross - if some fool puts up such religious symbols on his own, that type just lock up. Full balls harm gramps, scientifically proven anyway.
How can anyone put totems lingams crosses symbols minarets snake heads monoliths cretinoids idiotinoids viharnikoids etc on mountains? Without psych cert he's free!
