Menina in spring is one single flower and I went to admire that flower parade. I started at Črnivec so that the parade would last longer, nearly four full hours one way and as much back. It is really full of snowdrops and crocuses, there were also some bells and daffodils. Of course there is still some snow on the planina, especially in shady spots. There are lots of fallen trees on the path, so several detours are needed. No visitors today, at least I met no one. But there were loud wild boars, probably spring is driving them crazy.

Spring has bloomed on Menina in all its beauty. The path ran from Tuhinj Valley, across Biba pasture to Vivodnik and to the hut. Only the wind was quite strong. Since it's currently topical let me say that you won't see snakes anywhere Walking on the pasture is like a stroll on a soft green carpet.
Good thing Otiv, that I read this about "noisy wild boars" only now, otherwise I don't know if I would have gone up

Menina
In spring the pasture full of flowers,
overwhelms a person with heart's warmth.
From crocuses the world is violet,
embraced by countless snowdrops.
When you walk across these meadows,
you are truly filled with joy.
Just come to admire this bloom,
I think even a stone will turn to gold for you.

otiv, the second picture is two-leaved sea squill. I haven't seen it this year yet. On our meadow there are plenty of its small yellow relative. To Menina pasture I plan to go sometime in April. Haven't been there yet.

Since there was no characteristic bora on sunny Nanos, we caught it today right on Menina pasture and the real one that blows to the bones; for approach we chose from Bočna direction, but took a slightly easier variant because we didn't know about the path, so we drove a bit above Semprimožnik; fear was unnecessary, as the path is excellently marked worth all praise, arranged with original and pleasant signs; led through forest, on soft ground, in forest silence and solitude, since almost no hikers from that direction; because wind was blowing extremely on approach we didn't go right to the top with antenna, but across to Dom na Menini, with approaching black clouds laden with moisture, and on return not either and we rather quickly sailed down to the valley; anyway it's so beautiful that we need to return; lp

You can see how beautiful it is up there from many photos in the forum. This time I want to draw your attention to an event on Menina with environmental and nature protection note: MENINA DAY, on holiday Monday, 25.6.
It's a full-day gathering with many organized activities: guided walk on Menina with viewing natural sights, exhibitions (beekeeping, mushroom, vintage skiers,...), social games for children and adults (also gojzar throwing  , dance, stalls,...
This year's novelty the day before, on Sunday 24.6. is "MENINA NIGHT": after short lecture on how in cities they don't see stars anymore (at 20.00 lecture: Andrej Mohar, "Light pollution - will our children still observe stars above Menina pasture?") follows stargazing with telescopes and storytelling by the fire.
For participants of "MENINA NIGHT" we advise to reserve accommodation at hut keepers on Menina if you want to overnight in mountain hut – Darinka and Franc Grudnik (041 783 668).
Due to providing appropriate number of telescopes for stargazing preliminary registrations are welcome (041 354 693, Lojze Gluk).
Menina pasture is one of rare "oases" in Slovenia where due to altitude the Milky Way is still nicely visible. Let's use this advantage of Menina pasture!

Last Monday we walked from Biba pasture to the hut on Menina. Many cows are grazing on the entire pasture, on the Kamnik side more horses and sheep. It was cloudy, but still nice. From the hut we climbed to the viewpoint tower on Vivodnik, which is 15 minutes away from the hut. At the hut there was a nice view of the Kamnik Alps, especially Ojstrica.

We decided to drive a bit above Semprimožnik. The path runs through the forest praiseworthily marked, really worth praising. We didn't meet almost anyone, as they don't go on this path often. Snack was provided from the backpack, so we set off soon because clouds were already gathering in the distance. We'll come again, as the nature around us was very generous everywhere, looking at all the wonderful flowers. Best regards

On Wednesday 31.10.2012 it was possible with the car to go only a couple of km higher from the village Češnjice. Due to snow or fallen trees the road to Biba shelter is impassable.

Some pics this morning from Menina (Savnice). I park at Slape (no snow), go past Biba, colorful beeches and to Savnice where I also catch the sunrise.
No big snow because it's blown away, but there are some proper snowdrifts. Full moon took care that I didn't use lights except in the forest.
