Hello, I'm wondering where the best winter access to the Obir starting point is. Is Pavličevo sedlo drivable?

No, Pavličevo sedlo is closed to traffic on the Austrian side.

Yeah, but is it really true, or does AMZS always write that? Where else can one get to Železno Kaplo? Holmec

Best to call hotel Plesnik in Logarska dolina, they will surely know

Hribovc88, you are at Korošec waterfall, don't you know the way to Železna Kapla? Holmec, Pliberk, Globasnica, Miklavc hof, turn left there, then it's Železna Kapla. Lp

Hribovc88, now I'll drive to Sajda saddle and check conditions for Obir. Will report later. Lp

Velenje-Mislinja-Ravne na Kor.-Železna Kapla = 80 km Velenje-Logarska dolina-Pavličevo sedlo-Železna Kapla 79.6 km.... I've driven both routes already and can say they differ time-wise by 5-10 min. But definitely for me more pleasant through Logarska dolina.

Pavličevo sedlo is closed from the Austrian side. Not physically, but there is a red sign and warning in Železna. Colleagues from Logarska told me that sometimes Austrian police wait and fine you when you drive to their side. We therefore returned via here in December when coming from Obir. We went there via SG. 17.02.2012. As promised, my favorite route to Obir from Sajda saddle. The whole path today is not difficult, some parts of the path run through the forest where there is not much snow. Part of the path was traversed by ski tourers, some tracks under the new snow are still left from hikers, but the wind also drifted snow at certain places. The hardest part of the path is from the last road crossing to the re-entry into the forest, above Kacmunov križ. By the way, you cross the road 8x, 2x go on it about 100m uphill, 1x 20m downhill. Also on Obir the same picture, when you reach the slope snow decreases, wind blew it here too at certain places, also on the path. On the slope hard snow is already forming, partly slight ice. The summit itself has quite a thick blown SE side. I had a nice sunny day, so time was not long and the wind took care of it. I'm curious where your idea for Pavličevo sedlo comes from and which side you'd go to Luče from. Lp.

Thanks everyone for the information Janez, wonderful photos, I see you had a wonderful day Otherwise you described everything nicely, but hand on heart, you didn't help much, because to me those two geographical names like Šajda saddle and Kacmunov križ, and there would be more, don't tell much. I'm more interested in how to get to the starting point at all, to Železna Kapla I could manage, so in winter via Holmec and not via Pavličevo sedlo. Where does the idea come from to go via Pavličevo sedlo? I didn't even think that they don't plow there in winter or what is the reason the pass is closed? To Luče I'd go from the Ljubensko or Mozirsko direction. Thanks, Blaž

Blaž, when you arrive in Železna, drive towards - Zell-Schaida. Just like you'd go to - Koča pod Košuto - Cjajnik / Lärchenturm. At the top of the steep climb and when you see the Karavanke ridge, the road starts descending, parking (Janezs photo 1), park and there are signs for Obir. Then just follow the markers into the forest that lead to Obir. Don't let the earlier signs (right) for Obir confuse you, which you'll see. Here in normal (not winter) conditions you drive by road to the hut (paying toll - about 6 euros). lp

Thanks geppo, no devil will prevent me from finding this Obir I'm also wondering if there's avalanche danger up there

Blaž, I think there's no need to fear avalanches in this period (current conditions). But you'll probably encounter cornices, which are now everywhere. Best regards and I wish you a happy ascent on this extremely scenic mountain.

Hribovc88, if nothing else, it's worth visiting Obir for the view. Our hills are like on the palm of the hand! If you drive to the hut (of course, when it's passable), it's a nice family outing or outing for lovers. If you go from Šajda saddle, it's already a nice tour. Regards
