Today I treated myself to a visit to the queen of KSA. Started the path at Podvežak (by the way the road is super), continued to Molička planina and via Kocbek path to the summit. What LG wrote is true. Namely under Belim vrh there are two snowfields (in LG's picture) and when climbing towards Mala Ojstrica I noticed a trio of hikers who had quite some trouble crossing. From the summit I descended via the south path and over Prag, then past Stari stal along the hunting path under the walls of Lastovec to the parked car. Perfect loop and perfect day. Regards

Today my colleague and I wanted to go to Ojstrica via Skarje. Weather was super, but conditions for walking are impossible. Snow is windblown, you sink to knees and more. We got a little below skarje, then turned around.

Hello! Has anyone wandered around Ojstrica from planina Podvežak last days? How far is the road drivable and what are conditions from Kocbek to the top via Škarje?

@robi14: To the summit of Ojstrica from the Kocbek hut, you go along the southern side. Škarje, however, are on the western side of Ojstrica and from there there is no direct path to the summit. You probably mixed up a bit. Good luck!

@otiv: I have in mind the path that steeply climbs behind Kocbek dom and goes towards Škarje, then before Škarje branches right towards Ojstrica summit... Probably now talking about same path?

Exactly so @robi14, you wrote over Škarje before, which is not the same. Nice greeting!

I'm also interested if the road to planina Podvežak is drivable. I also plan in the near future (when snowfall eases and fresh snow transforms a bit) from here to Korošica then to Ojstrica summit. Does anyone have info?

I went to Planina Podvežak last Saturday (28.1.), snow on the road started soon after I turned off the Kr. Rak-Luče road, so I left the car at the farm near Planinška and walked up the road. A bit higher I saw some parked cars, some guy made it to about 3/4 of the way to the planina, while a group of boy scouts got stuck with their car in the snow a couple 100m before the planina That was all before this week's snowfall, so I doubt you'll get far without chains... But from Planinška to Podvežak it's about 1h walk.

Thanks a lot for the friendly and detailed reply. We'll just add that extra hour to the tour.

In the old days we turned left off the road a bit further from Planinška and up, higher crossed the road to Podvežak and via planina Vodole continued towards Korošica. That was a winter approach and it's a shame it's not remarkated.

Today I went past Podvežak again. The road to Planinška is mostly ok, need to be careful on bends. I left the car there and went up the marked path. Apparently some left the car higher, at the next junction, but then you have to go further to Podvežak on the road Already to Podvežak you had to break trail towards the top, the road right at the top is pure ice I planned to go further to the chapel on Molička planina, but turned back halfway from Podvežak because it was too exhausting breaking trail in wind-packed snow - every now and then I was up to my waist or more in snow! You can't see the path anyway, so I followed ski tracks of some ski tourer, but when you reach the bushes it doesn't help much anymore Still a nice trip on such a beautiful day!

Went with a buddy past Podvežak to Ojstrica on Sunday despite bad forecast. In the morning it looked ok, a bit past Deska fog started descending, so we almost missed Kocbekov dom. After a short stop conditions still looked good enough for ascent, so despite fog and wind we went to the top without major issues. Temperature dropped below freezing only around 1800m. Path to Kocbekov dom is still poorly visible, and on return through bushes snow was sinking quite a bit. You can see spring is coming to the mountains too. Too bad there was no time for the same feat a day earlier when weather was better...

Well, those were the conditions last Friday (20.4.). Didn't go to the top due to snowfall and worsening visibility (morning was still sunny). But conditions were the most wintry of all this year's winter tours (and I didn't have few).

Podvežak-Mala Ojstrica, along the ridge to the top- Ojstrica-Korošica-Podvežak, was my tour today. Road to planina Podvežak is completely dry and in very good condition, although still marked "closed". Just watch for rocks (even larger boulders) that rolled onto the road. Path to the turnoff for Mala Ojstrica is a bit tricky, as large snow patches that sink prevent faster progress, but no special gear needed except good fitness. Ridge from Mala O. to the top is dry, except two small snowfields that can be bypassed and pose no problems. At the top fog and rainy shower caught me, which accompanied almost the whole descent to Korošica, so views today weren't great. Descended quickly to Korošica, as there are still many snowfields to zigzag nicely. Just watch the right direction. On north faces towards Log. valley, snow and rock avalanches were releasing, so Kopinškova is not safe at this time. While snacking (btw in the clean and tidy winter room at the hut on Korošica), two more joined me who planned to L. Dedec and that was all up there today.
