I know these are strange questions, Igor, but there won't be space for crampons, so tell me as much as possible because if it can't be done without crampons, of course I won't be there.

You'll just turn around and try another time, because the goal can also be before the snowfield; there you chill and slowly head back to the valley. More and more people mistake mountains for something they must achieve, even if thunderstorm, snowfield, fog—just for the summit. How back? Probably with GRS help, as most accidents happen on descent.

I know @redbull, what you wrote, that there won't be space for crampons. Backpacks are small and not everything fits in. We also sometimes have problems when we have to carry stretchers, winch, some 100 or 200m statics, and some dynamic on top of our own backpack and personal gear, not speaking of the rest of the stuff. But somehow we fit it all in, if not inside we put it aside and on top and go. 2 hours, sometimes 3, maybe more up the hill and usually twice as much back, usually much more down. I won't comment anymore, just so much as for some small crampons and ice axe.

The main topics of this season in the mountains are ice axe and crampons. What all do you carry ON the backpack that there's no space for these two?

Not just this year, but all of them! And always the same, idiotic questions that keep being asked... We ice axe guys always fall for it

Doesn't bother me if some beginner asks such questions. In those cases they just need to be advised again and again, preferably by those who really know the conditions. Different is when @redbull asks them and doesn't add that he plans to run in the mountains and that's why he's interested where the snow is. We know that, but newbies on the forum don't. Is it really that hard to add a sentence about it so as not to mislead those who go to mountains only in summer. Dejan, it's really annoying, a bunch of such questions about snow conditions in mid-summer. I fully understand Igor who picks us up there and his hair stands on end when he reads this. Best to all!

So I won't ramble about gear and conditions too - Dejan, there's so much snow that ice axe and crampons are mandatory for crossing the Planjava - Ojstrica ridge, and stick to the advice of older colleagues - they mean well - they too (including me) were "young bulls" at your age

Today I went with a buddy via Kopinškova to Ojstrica. Before the "lojtro" there's a snow patch that can be bypassed below and then on the left side. Up on the traverse there's still quite a lot of snow patch. Snow is very impassable, so despite winter gear we turned back before the traverse. Best!

15.6. I was on Ojstrica via Mala Ojstrica ... the path is dry, crossed only one snow patch where more caution was needed

I just don't understand why it's necessary to constantly belittle and moralize those who ask if winter gear is needed on paths. Some of us don't have an ice axe and crampons and don't plan to buy them. So in January we go to Jošt not Storžič, in May to Zelenica not Begunjščica. It doesn't go into my head why it's then so scandalous to ask on the forum if there's still snow on path xy or not. Some, like mountain runners, sometimes don't want to take winter gear because they want to go/run as "light" as possible. They also ask and it's right that they do. F..., there's a section "current conditions" on the forum. Do you even understand the meaning of "current conditions"??? And one more: I don't know why unlike mountain rescuers I almost never hear moralizing from volunteer firefighters, and their voluntary activity is also deadly dangerous. p.s. sorry mod, I know it has no direct relation to Ojstrica!

@SunBurned: That's right! Well said! The forum is for asking about current conditions, not constantly hearing lecturing from the same "old-timers".

But I understand those so-called "old-timers". They don't stick exactly to marked, signposted, protected paths and for them it's normal to carry all that, so it's harder for them to understand these "newcomers" who ask... lp

SunBurned, well written. The forum is for commenting on current conditions and it is logical that people ask here what the conditions are and how fast they change. If it bothers someone so much, don't read the forum. Others will be glad for any info on the state of mountain paths.
