Yes, they charge 10 EUR because they care for nature. On Vršič and in Vrata you pay 3 EUR or 3.5 EUR. That's still acceptable, 10 EUR is pure gouging.

Don't compare prices with abroad, their average wages much higher than ours, and crying doesn't pay, everyone solves their own problems their own way. Personally, goodbye Bohinj, let them fleece those who let them.

The 10 euro price is definitely too high regarding the state of the "road" it's in (catastrophic in places), not to mention the parking problem at Planina Blato. They just want to rake in money, and you get screwed at Blato where sometimes you can't even turn around let alone park, which you actually paid for (road use and parking). When they let a certain number of cars through they close it and let more in again when there's space again. But Bohinjc is Bohinjc, stubborn and pigheaded. They don't know how to do tourism properly, and when someone comments they feel attacked... and spit out the famous Bohinj "proverb": "Then don't go if something's not right for you!"

@John: does that mean the road this year is worse than last? More potholes? So I know a little if I'll go up, what to expect..

Well, you can drive, but given that the money is for maintenance, it could be fixed in some sections. Especially parking at Blato when crowded is a disaster, you can't do anything, neither park nor turn. It really annoys me, no problem they collect it, it's sure expensive but ok, the problem is the way I described in the previous post.

Has anyone often seen it in autumn during downpours that, for example, raised the Bohinj Lake level by three meters? Who in winter when they literally buried it with snow slides? Don't cry for 10 €. Go on foot! No one will stop you.

If it were that bad, they would have closed it themselves But rather they hammer full on There's no problem in payment but in the Bohinj principle. Personally, I have nothing against Bohinj residents but everyone who has been to Bohinj on a trip has some bad experience.

They closed it because it was impassable and they weren't ripping anyone off.

I don't know if you don't understand me Peter2 or don't want to understand what I want to say...closed until further notice...now opening again...Closed forever or allowed only for landowners and it's solved. When it's like that I'll believe it's really that bad to maintain this road, otherwise it's just business

You've written off Slovenians too if you prefer mentioning planina PECOL instead of the Slovenian name. Then just stay there and mangle some more Slovenian words.

At Laghi di Fusine they don't charge parking fee. Old names are just that.. We live in a world that constantly changes.

Heinz, these aren't OLD names, these are Slovenian names. Laghi di Fusina are Belopeška lakes, some call them Mangrtska too. The Italian word FUSINA itself hints it's an Italianized word from Slovenian - FUŽINA.

Peter2 - I think the problem isn't those 10 euros, at least for most. I think the bigger problem is when you drive to the lower parking where they charge parking for this road, park in the sun and pay 1.50 euros per hour (that's more than in Ljubljana in some parking garages!). Even more stupid is that parking for the whole day is 12 euros!? Which means they force you not to walk. If it was for the gravel parking without shade say 5 euros for the whole day it would be plenty! And the parking meter there doesn't give change...

Yeah, it would be interesting to hear now how many avalanches went over the lower parking or what damage water did, that it also needs to be charged so expensively.

... and minimum you have to take 1h, even if you just go for 20 minutes for ice cream. But I think it shows on Bohinj visits ... camp Danica was e.g. at least half empty. Everything comes back like a boomerang.

Yeah heinz old names with the new Slovenian minority in Val Canale which was only recognized in 2001. Same goes for all Slovenians up to Gorizia. Obviously they came from Mars, before that they weren't there huh? Some instead of speaking like our compatriots across the border, as mainly their grandfathers and grandmothers spoke, speak like new modern Italians who only appeared here in 1920 and have no clue about local names around them. Our nation's language today has no meaning at all. I don't know why we don't just start speaking English and end this mess about the Slovenian nation that can't even take care of itself.

The topic title is Planina Blato-Road toll. So the discussion was about the road itself. How parking is above Stara Fužina I don't know and I didn't discuss that either. I know there are quite a few problems with parking around Bohinj, especially around the lake and that we have far too "diligent" parking service that deters many tourists. But for that it would be right to open another topic. Regards

The road toll collectors didn't exactly impress with their visit over the weekend. But I won't say more, in case the locals are reading this and someone might lose their job because of it.
