Road to Vrata

You took us nicely along the path of our youth.nasmeh The older ones still remember it, the young probably only know the winter variant. I walked it about 20 years ago on the ascent to Triglav with a group of younger people.
From Styria we usually went by train to Ljubljana and then by bus to Mojstrana, arriving before noon. If we were willing, we reached Kredarica the same day.
Back then we started all ascents at the beginnings of the valleys and of course they weren't one-day trips like now.

Nicely described

Does anyone know why the road to Vrata is closed?, apart from the fact that some snow has probably already fallen now.

Whenever I post more personal thoughts and mountain experiences on the blog, I'm somewhat in a dilemma about linking to Hribi.net. I'm glad that today's link also evoked nice memories of past times for you and thanks everyone for the praising wordsnasmeh.

@redbull, there was no snow on Sunday and the road was passable, but that would change in an instant if it froze due to low temperatures, because it was quite soggy. I think it's right that it's closed, because the weather is unpredictable. It's probably different already today.

has anyone walked around here who has data on the road condition?
The continuation from Pericnik waterfall especially interests me.

thanks

On Friday 13.3.2016 I walked in those areas (Begunjski vrh from Turk's rovt). With the car I could drive in Vrata valley to the 9 km mark (approx. 1.5 km before Turk's rovt).

How is it around Pericnik and onwards to Vrata, if maybe someone walked or drove around there. Would be glad for information.
Good luck

The road is officially closed, two prohibition signs.

I'm asking about the road or snow on it, possible ice - not about the prohibition sign. That sign is always there and if you obey them everywhere then you can stay locked in your room all year

good luck

Redbull, I barely drove to Matizovec the last two turns with momentum and new Vredestein Snow track tires. Namely on sunny sections every forecasted warmer day, ice will form there. To Vrata it's especially hard to drive the steep slope above Peričnik, where there's now smoothed unplowed snow. Maybe with some off-roader with low range or at least Subaru Forester, Land Rover, could handle the road.

Viharnik, if you had problems on the road with "Vredestein Snow track" tires, then only chains remain for you. These tires rate very high according to references.

No, it went ok, there were two more ice sections in between and there it spun a bit idly with speed loss. Otherwise years ago in icy conditions from Matizovec downhill even with chains they went straight into ditches and left the steel horses there until the ice melted.

Viharnik, studded tires perform the best on ice, which are unfortunately banned here. We see their effectiveness at rally events driving on ice roads.

Viharnik, I didn't mean Juha Kankkunen. But he really is a professor of driving on snow and ice. Crazy, incredible!

Every debate quickly veers off somewhere...once to crampons, second to the moon, third to tires...
