I agree Edko, how short those 12 km seemed to me when I held some girl's hand. Hill walkers were different, there were fewer, hut keepers were legends, and we were quite a bit younger too. Now I avoid these areas from afar, like many others. I've found my peace elsewhere. Best regards!

Good and bad news. Good for those who like to sleep and bad for those who like to be early at the tour's starting point. Definitely it would be better if the first bus departed earlier, e.g. at 4 and 5am from Mojstrana and the last at 8 and 9 from Vrata.

Well yeah. 6.00 from Mojstrana is generally okay, although there are tours (climbing in the Wall etc.) where you'd wish a bit earlier. What bothers me more is the last departure at 18.00 - that's actually 3 hours before dark. In other words, using public transport you really can't make full use of the day. And that's even before talking about some mulled wine or barley soup at Aljaž. That really doesn't seem cool to me (and yeah, I'm a bit curious what the Aljažev dom caretaker thinks about it).

In my opinion this offer is aimed more at tourist / occasional hikers. There are most of them. Those are the ones who go to the mountains late, e.g. at 7 or 8 in the morning and then sleep a couple of times in various huts and get drunk a few times in between before managing to reach Triglav. Those few percent who go early to the mountains and do everything in one day will still find parking due to early hours. I've always found a parking spot at Planina Blato around 4am so far.

Not everyone is like that, unable to sleep at night and wandering around early with lights. Then they freeze on the summit until sunrise. Otherwise, public transport will apparently be organized when the "Vrata" project is completed, from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For me, starting at seven is plenty for 95% of tours. Damn, for a one-day Triglav you have plenty of time. But if you're going to climb Prusik, it'll be a bit late. I see a bigger problem - as I said, according to this schedule from the first arrival to the last departure it's only about 11 hours. That might be a bit short for a really long tour. Oh, and starting the hike at seven in the morning is by no means late. You have a full 13 hours of daylight, which is almost the maximum for most hikers for a one-day tour.

Have you been to Prusik already? It's not that long. You'll make it back for barley soup before the transport.

Ah, if you start for Triglav at seven, even at a very moderate pace you're back at Kredarica by two. If something catches you lower, no big panic. But if thunderstorms are forecast even earlier, then you just don't go on a full-day tour. That should be obvious. Oh, no, I haven't been to Prusik. Mihelič estimates 6-8 hours, which everyone will say is quite optimistic. You have to be well versed in climbing and not miss it anywhere. And if you add an hour and a half of approach and at least three hours of descent, we're already close ...

6-8 hours is probably if you belay all the pitches. Which isn't necessary, because there's quite a bit of easy stuff in between. Orientation isn't as tricky as they say.

An averagely trained young person, starting at seven in Vrata, via Luknja, Plemenice to the top, Kredarica and Prag down, with a short snack and rest on the top and Kredarica, can greet Dani at Dovje at three in the afternoon.

....@jax of course you don't go...you. I go, just definitely well before seven and I'm down by 12. But with this transport it doesn't work and I'll go somewhere else

Wait wait wait. 8 hours up to Triglav and down is just not the time for an AVERAGELY trained mountaineer. I never said it can't be done, even much faster. But average it just isn't. The guidebook writers really have the most to say about averages. Sure it can be faster. But the orientation times in guidebooks are generally quite correct.

I don't care at all if someone is faster than me. Usually I'm within the written times, sometimes a bit earlier or later. And I don't worry. Enjoyment, experience, and returning home without injuries are important.

Yes, but in the early summer months (June, July and part of August before the day starts shortening again) in the mountains (personally for me) it's by far the most beautiful from 5:00 to 8:00, when the stars slowly disappear and the beautiful peaks of the surrounding mountains glow fiery. Additionally you avoid crowds and unbearable heat, which in recent years has been a constant companion of all summer tours. And definitely it's not a pleasure to walk in the sun and heat - just remember that this year at Kredarica midday it was 20.1 degrees. For some it's probably really a pleasure to climb in "pleasant" 30 degrees and sun, for me and many others definitely not. I'd much rather be cool by 12 at Triglavska Bistrica. People are different and of course some prefer to sleep longer, which I certainly allow them. But I don't know why you don't do the same and simply let people go to the mountains when they want, without constantly seeking reasons why starting at such and such time is unreasonable. Imagine what the world would be like if everyone was the same and in this case - went to the mountains at the same time?

Vrata is the starting point for the longest and physically most demanding mountain tours in our mountains. A responsible mountaineer will thus start the tour early and do most of the ascent in the shade. He will return before the afternoon swelter, heat and heat thunderstorms. This way he will contribute a lot to his own safety and that of others. Therefore it's completely logical that many people want to be in Vrata at 4, 5 a.m., even earlier. At 5:30 it's already daylight and no light is needed anymore. If you walk an hour earlier with a light, you don't miss special views down at the hostel. According to the timetable, the first bus arrives in Vrata only at 6:40, which is fine for the crowd of tourists going to Aljažev dom. But not for many mountaineers. I hope that for them parking in Vrata will still be available at a normal price - so they won't start copying the Bohinj folks.
