It's not said for nothing that Jalovec is the king of mountains.
Personally for me the upper part of the descent from the summit to Kotovo sedlo is one of the worst, where there's no room for error, if you slip you fly down some 500-700 meters.... so you don't mess with Jalovec......

fanton, I'll try to answer you nasmeh

Jalovec won't pose major problems to an experienced enough hiker. I'd advise you to rack up mileage on other trails and leave Jalovec for a while. When in a few years you head again to some very demanding trail that you did earlier in your "career", you'll realize the paths aren't as narrow as you remembered, the steepness isn't that bad and the exposure isn't that scary.

My opinion is that nowadays people rush too quickly to trails they're not grown up for. Instead of enjoying less demanding paths, they buy all possible safety gear and then clip on terrified to every anchor they see along the way. These same people then preach on web forums to others about using self-belay gear, saying anchors were installed exactly for that purpose. They don't know that anchors were mostly installed long before the first SVKs appeared nasmeh Of course there are also other heroes who find no trail hard or dangerous and confidently proclaim that. So I'd advise you to skip web forums during tour prep (except for current conditions info) and use printed guidebooks for actual trail difficulty. For Julian Alps, Mihelič's guide is still the law.

Hope I answered you at least partially mežikanje

@fanton: Best for such tours is to take someone who knows the route. If you're on FB, find some groups and ask if someone's up for Jalovec. Good to go with such also on easier tours and later more serious ones.
Many haven't been to Jalovec yet, because it's definitely harder than Triglav/Prisank, easiest approach from Zadnja Trenta but no route is easy, all very demanding with quite some free easier climbing with overhangs behind and spiced with scree. Views into Loška koritnica, Tamar, Zadnja Trenta are quite deep, airy, precipitous and serious.
If you're scared, you've already turned back once, then wait.
I like best hikers, mountaineers who build the pyramid, nothing bad will happen to them for sure and they'll always eagerly wait to head to mountains again. A route marked easy, very demanding will be known to them, they already know preparations, what all to take.
For details on Jalovec, difficulty, gear, first ask mountain guides.

Thanks for the answers.
Yes, will need to ask a more seasoned one for company on this tour, but first gain some personal experience, as you advised.
Thanks!

I see you've already decided how and what, but anyway... I support the thesis that you're not ready for a mountain if you have too many doubts about it (especially since you've already met Jalovec once, but still not sure...). Since you're a beginner, better conquer some other peak (progress technically and in fitness) and you'll see how suddenly posts about a mountain's difficulty become insignificant.

just stick to Zebdi's advice, believe me, he knows what he's talking about unlike other "fans"

Well, here you always need to keep the right measure, but still I have to say this: before every demanding tour there are doubts. Will it work or not? Before you're there, you don't know. And fear is always present. But for hill walking it holds the same as for practically all activities - the point is overcoming your own fears, not avoiding them. Sure, you need to keep the right measure, otherwise we'd all be dead. But again: the fact that you're somewhat afraid of something doesn't mean you can't go there. On the contrary, fear is more or less always present and that's right.

Well yeah, as for fitness no problem.
As for fear, as I say, it's interesting to me that some paths or sections are secured, though (at least to me) they don't seem problematic.
After all (not boasting, on the contrary) via Tominšek we whole hiking club some good 15 years ago reached Kredarica without any climbing harness or self-belay set. Back then I didn't even know about climbing harnesses or self-belay sets, because I signed up for the tour overnight when I saw the notice on the club board, where it wasn't noted that personal protection is needed. Only on Triglav I noticed some hikers using harnesses.
Today of course I have all necessary gear, but it seems to me that on some tours where self-belay set is recommended it's not that necessary, while on others, like I mentioned Jalovec here, I'd wish for more cables.
Anyway, where does it say all peaks need to be "wired", some are just reserved for the best.

best regards

14 years of mountaineering. Only one course behind me. Hiked 110 - 120 different peaks over 2000 m, some off-trail among them, average 25 tours per year, 99 % solo hiking. And I've always read hribe.net and previously pzs.si only for current conditions on the path and ideas where to go. For everything else I used books. Self-belay kit I used only on the lojtra on Montaž. Everyone exclusively knows for themselves where to go and what they are capable of. I started secured paths gradually, helped by the book 50 secured paths, started of course with the easiest - to Storžič, then gradually reached Montaž and Triglav via Plemenice, well Jalovec happened somewhere in between. The same path can also represent a completely different level of difficulty in certain psycho-physical conditions. And so I advise you only, all those just starting to hike in mountains, take these hribi.net comments with a lot, lot of reserve. And follow advice where and how to go only from someone who has already gone on some tour with you and knows your abilities.

The only important thing is to know how to turn back in time and to do so in case of trouble. Whether after half an hour of hiking due to say ice or after ten, right before the summit.

lynx: I took colleagues to Triglav. A colleague went to Triglav "already" for the second time, but on the way from Mali Triglav completely froze. Most often the path down the valley is harder than to the summit. How do you then know when to turn?

In sailing they say: reef as soon as you first think you need to shorten the sails. That's how I do in the mountains: if I first think that I need to turn, I turn. End of story, never been sorry. The mountains will wait, there's time ... no need to push up at any cost

gorolazka: with a bit of imagination, experiences or good company. If you know the descent is harder, then you're just more attentive at places that already make trouble on the ascent. When in doubt, do as jedriličar says. On this portal we have plenty of stories about how it got stuck somewhere sometime for the same reasons. Even very experienced, no mistake.

On Monday I met a group before the entry into the climbing section from Kredarica to the summit. When I overheard frightened words spoken in a tremor, I spoke up: "the path is indeed nicely secured, slowly one gets far, but thank God no one forces us.. Courageous is indeed also the one who at the right time decides for return." After a few-minute stop they turned.

And also my thinking: when you feel doubt when going up; then turn, because down will be even harder.nasmeh When courage is bigger than "fear", usually something happens.
