Today (4.8.) watched the sunrise from Škrlatica, wonderful.
The bus dropped me off at 19:15 in Mojstrana, at 21:15 I was in Vrata, followed by a detour towards Luknja for water. At 22:00 start towards Škrlatica. I wanted to be at the summit around 4:00 to see the whole story from total darkness to the first glimpse of the sun; the first signs of light appear around 4:15. But I didn't want to be up there much before 4:00, as it quickly becomes incredibly cold when you stop moving.
So I started; at midnight I was at the bivouac, a full hour faster than the sign on the board. I knew I had to slow down the pace a lot; waiting 3 hours at the summit would be extremely difficult. So in the second half of the path I made 3 10-minute breaks (after that period of sitting still, the cold starts cutting into legs and arms). At the scree under the wall I stopped for another 15 minutes because I was looking for a suitable route. In the end I decided to go horizontally across the scree; I reached the wall about 20 m below the marking, which I quickly found. I reached the summit at 3:40. Still dark; with the light off, the outline of Triglav is nicely visible, and that's all there is to see regarding the mountains. Otherwise, a fantastic view of the stars, the sky was clear. Of course, the surrounding valley areas that shine all night were also visible. But I quickly noticed that I wasn't alone up there so high; a light was shining from Triglav, and also from Dolkova špica.
Then it began: from afar the first signs of light, soon the top of Grintovec appeared, and slowly in the next minutes with the reddish background of the still distant sun, that part of the Kamnik Alps revealed itself from top to bottom. Soon Kočna appeared, later Kalški greben. Triglav was soon no longer just an outline; the glacier appeared, then Kredarica. Razor and Prisojnik also appeared. So by 5:00 all the surrounding mountains were quite well visible; the horizon was already quite bright, the top of the sky was still very dark blue, almost black, no more stars. We had to wait for the last act. At 5:40 a red ball first appeared, which quickly wanted to illuminate the Slovenian mountains.
A new day dawned, and I headed via Kriški podi to Trenta to the bus that took me back to Gorenjska. First time I fell asleep already before Vršič.
