What conditions do you think I can expect in the Julian Alps (Špik via several demanding paths where no via ferrata gear is needed or Prisojnik via south route) on Saturday? If the mountaineer is already quite experienced, can it be done without crampons, ice axe?

According to the weather forecast, you won't be able to see the mentioned peaks even from the valley.

Not necessarily. Maybe complete inversion, fog below, sun above ...

Never with such a south wind as it's blowing these last days and the next few.

Today on Špik via Kačji graben. Below nicely passable, likewise the first steep forest section. Put on crampons only around 1300m, from that height onwards without them only on a few spots, where it is also sensible to remove them. Early morning nicely firm, crampons grip well. Higher up conditions change a bit, quite some drifted snow, some crust in places and punched through on sections. Last 300 vertical meters quite unpleasant as top layer fairly softened, hard base below (slides like toboggan, crampons & ice axe poor grip). Didn't linger on summit so snow wouldn't soften too much, soon descended. Downhill with crampons required caution due to unexpected leg sinkings so nothing snaps in knees . In the end all fine, nice trip! Cheers!

Evening on Spik from Russian Cross, very late start (10:30). Snow starts when turning around Chamois Peak (immediately more than a meter). And accompanies us to the top. Without crampons and ice axe no way, even second ice axe not too much. Due to tough conditions reached Lipnica only at 14:30. No energy for last push on Spik, so descended via Kačji Graben. Descent fun, even though due to snow and debris can't see exactly where marked path starts. Keep left snowfields and "ski" deep into forest where can't miss marks. Trip phenomenal

Yesterday on Spik and Frdamane ledges via Kačji graben. Path dry to screes. Higher over screes still quite some snow, but can bypass with bit scrambling right under Lipnica base or of course winter gear Continuation to Spik top again dry rock. Ascent to Frdamane ledges from col between Spik and le-temi also dry and easy. Weather super few visitors (met two)..probably due bad forecast. Anyway great pics:

Why does everyone go via Kačji graben? Does anyone know the conditions past the hut?

No snow in KG till the path turns under the summit wall. Further there is still quite some, but not full width. Today it was full of visitors, but most came via Lipnica. Quite a few descended through KG anyway. Jasna is already for swimming, the heat unbearable.

Hello Has anyone else maybe been to Špik in the last few days? I'd like info on possible snow on the path past the hut in Krnica. Vukovivek reported some snow patches below the summit. Thanks

I did read it, but then in the next comment it says ...below the summit there are still some large patches, so I asked again if that's under Špik summit or under Kačji graben summit. Thanks anyway for the answer.

Start from Poštarski dom on Vršič Sunday around 5am. On foot along the road to the hut in Krnica (2 hours). Summit at 11:30. Descent through Kačji graben, which drags on and on. Still some snow patches, through the forest wet and dangerous for slipping. Helmet mandatory. Quite a long and strenuous tour, especially back towards Vršič. The whole route took less than 12 hours. *začimba- anyway I don't know what was going on in the heads of the three mountaineers who were sending stones down the snow towards Kačji graben (luckily no one was coming up that path) but such people exist.
