Yesterday past the Krnica hut to Špik. At 10 a.m. summit. Snow still hard then, would turn back without winter gear. On descent lower already quite soft.

Given the conditions (pics, weather) I rather went to Trupejevo poldne. Špik looked like this.

Spik was planned already in spring, still in snow, but it has remained until now only in rare patches, more for joy than an obstaclenasmeh.
Although we carried gear with us, it wasn't necessary to use it.
But I forgot that you have to overcome as much as 1600m of elevation gain to climb to its summit and if they are done via Kačji graben, it's a real test of endurance.

A summit that deserves all respect, both with its shape and its views of daring ridges, notches, beautiful cirques. Among the peaks we also caught a sparkling view of the lake at Jasna.

What attracted me most was the view of the area between Kukova špica and Spik, the scree slopes and cirques under these mountains; we also somehow caught the idyllic oasis of three larches in our view.
On the summit yesterday only one gentleman besides us; altogether we met four more hikers. Paradise for a hike to such a peak as Spik! Even the chamois under the face of Spik wasn't in a hurry anywhere yesterday; it enjoyed its world.

Conclusion by Velika Pišnica with soaking feet in the water and a well-deserved beer in handnasmeh.

Since no one has described the conditions for a long time, I'll refresh the topic a bit. Yesterday we headed to Spik, from Pišnica past Koča v Krnici to the summit. Descent via scree and Kačji graben.

No noteworthy features on the path, maybe that it's a bit harder to find in the dark where the path turns from the hut onwards, otherwise super circular tour.

For the whole thing we took 7 hours of walking, but we had quite a few stops to admire the views and nice weather too, so we weren't in a hurry nasmeh

Met quite a few hikers who took advantage of the ideal Saturday.
Attaching some photos.

A longer path description can be found HERE and the recording HERE.

Spik (2472 m) through Kačji graben - 5.10.2019

The plan was one awesome sunrise, but clouds prevented it for us... Just 20 min later the clouds gave way, the sun peeked out and created a fairy tale for us.

Planning a visit this weekend, still in dilemma whether to do circular or just the same path. And dilemma which path, because reading such different opinions. No issues with fitness, always at summit faster than times. Is Kačji graben in shade all the time these days? Thanks for tips

The path via Krnica and Lipnica is nicer and easier. If you want a circular path, up via Lipnica, down via Kačji graben.

This weekend there was already some light snow on the summit, which can be frozen. Today/tomorrow precipitation is forecast again. Judging by the photos, upper 200-300m.

Grenaleva, I went from Krnica on Sunday, recommend small crampons to you, and proper ones for safety in the backpack. Problem is the last 150m gain, that snow won't melt, the more trodden the icier. Not enough snow for real crampons mrk pogled , small ones would be very handy. Kačji for descent didn't look appealing at all, so we returned same way.

22.10.2019. Yesterday's ascent to Špik in nice weather. Only on the summit quite windy. But still we stayed about an hour. When you just can't get yourself to head down. One foreigner on top. Otherwise nobody. From Krnica. Path well marked. Descended through Kačji graben. Hut in Krnica open on weekends.
At the summit we are after about five hours. 1

Pure hell. On Thursday, when planning yesterday's trip, didn't imagine most demanding tour this winter. Ignore occasional ice on Pišnica road, but bigger problems in lower Kačji graben mixing ice and rock, don't know how to act. Crampons with buddy only in decent steepness in just right firm snow. Joy didn't last long, snow started breaking under human weight, would bear only child weight. This calvary continued almost to last pitch. We don't give up, though no encouraging news from only two descending that day. One of them Jure, forum member. Clouds occasional, wind gusts several times, on Lipnica wind carrying snow.jezen
Bad things end herenasmehnasmeh. Last pitch real song (two axes better), wind completely gone, clouds dispersed, on summit enjoyed views, snack and photographing without gloves. Except mentioned two, no one all day even on summits.
After obligatory visit to Dani, home just before sunset.
