We parked at Russian Cross in the dark, as there was just enough space for one car. It started dawning, so we had no need for lights. But we noticed there's a big parking lot below and it's smarter to park there. Then we carefully crossed the stream and only got part of one sock wet in Suha Pišnica.
We continued past the hut in Krnica over Lipne prode "around the bend" and on to the ridge, where we put on helmets and stowed poles. Climb to first bump and spot the summit behind. Realize later it's not Spik summit. Then half hour of scrambling and you're there. On top they recently put up new trig point with logbook as it seems. Weather great, Spik one of most panoramic peaks so we took time, snacked, took pics and enjoyed.
We met few people on way up, maybe 10 on top. We started descent just after noon and only then some were coming up. First thought of descending Kačji graben, but craving coffee in Krnica and possibly less knee-straining descent same way won. Hut was full, she got coffee, I beer and half, then continued to car and home.

Today on Spik via Kačji graben.
At top of scree and higher some small snow that can't be avoided. Without ice axe I'd have turned back.
Tip: As soon as you think of using crampons, use them.

Yesterday 10.5. Spik was still far away. From Krnica dry, turned back a bit above Gamsova Špica. Under it concrete avalanche debris from recent rains, higher up looked still too soft to continue. Proper snow from Macesn below Gamsova, to there 2 steep snow tongues bypassed a bit lower or via scree.

Hi!  before planning a suitable hike, I would really appreciate info on the path to Spik past the hut in Krnica? Especially, is the path dry yet?

Last Sunday those areas looked approximately like this ... and there will probably be quite some snow for a while yet.

Today up via Kačji graben. Snow starts when you get out of the forest (ca. 1900 m). Upper slope partly in shade and crampons are needed there. Rocks below summit are dry.

On Sunday 20.3. up and down via Kačji graben. Conditions good, snow hard, only in the lower part quite some caution needed on rocks because icy in places and dangerous for slipping.

There are no more snow patches past the hut in Krnica, there are still some snow patches over Kačji graben that can be crossed without problem without winter gear.

Paths lead from the hut in Krnica, across the hut so far I haven't noticed any path.
Also Kačji graben is spelled with a capital letter.
