I arrived at Stenarska vratca three years ago by accident when I strayed from the path from Vrata to Škrlatica. To them I walked almost an hour and a half. Mostly scree. Last part is wall, but nothing bad. Back to the "right" path I needed 20 minutes of scrambling on scree. It joins before the bivouac.

Aha, that's the situation, thanks to both for the info. Just have to set out on these paths and see what and how. I haven't seen this route description anywhere - over Stenarska vratca, even on maps it's a dashed line, in short no path but marked.

Today due to the meteorologists' strike, due to absence in the mountains, I had to check the actual conditions with my own eyes, of course armed with an ice axe. I went up via the nice Sovatna path, which is now higher up nicely equipped with cables so no struggling on scree. The low cloud boundary was very high today, around 1800m, in Jesenice it was even raining from the clouds. Finally a beautiful blue sunny sky opened and autumn was perfect. It was quite cold on the summit and everyone returning from the top warned about it. After returning from the summit I met nearby Šodrovec-Mitja from the forum. We chatted there until fog from the south almost covered us, rising quickly. For the return I decided on a quick descent via Sovatna, as everything was in fog. Later it cleared below again, but in the Vrata valley fog like in November. Below I also met a gentleman and lady from Plavški rovt, where Ruret Robič's tragic accident happened; the man told me that Jureta was hit by some very strange drunk guy and who knows what else. He called his son to the scene after the accident and said that he was driving because he himself didn't even have a driver's license. Damn him! He probably drove right down the middle of the forest path, since skilled Jure, who lived on his bike, would have avoided crashing into the vehicle somehow. Greetings and God be with you.

Rok and Tadej are phenomenal! The fog at your place really reached quite high into the mountains, but all the effort was richly rewarded judging by the pictures. Now in the mountains there is really that true peace with rare hikers around. The ascent took me 3h 50min including grandma's and apple snack midway, down through Sovatna to Bukovlje 1h plus a bit on the flat to Aljaž. Very nice, high tour for autumn days. Lp

We were also quite close, we on Špik. Above the fog it was wonderful.

Dear friends, I am asking for information about the conditions for the ascent to Stenar through Sovatna if anyone has been there? Nice regards to all mountaineers. Nevicica

Thanks to the admin for "moving" me to the requested topic. I've already done the path to Stenar once in summer conditions, so it's not unknown to me. My question was more aimed at seeking info from hikers who've gone through Sovatna recently. LP

I doubt many have gone through Sovatna recently. Through Sovatna it's better to ski than to hike to Stenar in winter (for obvious reasons). Maybe the question is more aimed (appropriately) at some crew and alpinists who use Sovatna for descent. Conditions are undoubtedly still winterly... No Stenar recorded on slo-alp for quite a while. It was super popular at the start of the calendar year, loads of ropes up there in both walls!

Today's goal was the mighty mountain above Vrata valley, offering one of the best views of Steno. Start in Vrata and via Sovatna to Stenar. Nice day, sunny weather with some wind, a few people around. No special features on the path, except in the upper part from Stenar gates onwards the markers are quite faded and you need to watch closely. A few pics.

Today - Stenar via Sovatna. Nice and not as long a tour as you'd think. I'd almost dare say it's closer from Vrata to Kriška plateau than from Zadnjica. Definitely more interesting path though. Had the summit to myself for a while. Original plan was also Križ, but ankle wouldn't allow.. Really nice in that corner of Triglav paradise. Weather today just right..

Today two of us went via Sovatna to Stenar. Sovatna practically dry. Further on need to cross about three snowfields, ice axe good to have in hand. Had a bit of trouble finding the path, but now it's tracked. Otherwise bliss for this time of year. Sunshine, no cloud, no wind.

Today I spent a very nice day in pleasant company in the embrace of Stenar. Weather fantastic, warm, no wind. The path that led us from Vrata via Sovatna to the top is dry, except for some snowfields under Stenar, which don't pose major problems. Day to shout about....
