If you're ever interested in what's happening, I recommend opening SOS112 then just click SPIN and it shows you the map and current rescue events, there are also older ones, just click on the one you want to see and it all shows up.

Thanks for the info, but I'm not that much of a busybody. It was just a passing remark about actual events. I just live under Stožec and if the neighbor calls you to the binoculars...

About accidents never resting anywhere, of course.

Snow starts on the clearing below sp. Kališče. Further on it's just postholing and postholing like powdered sugar.
A little above Bašelj saddle I put on winter gear and posthole. Snow hasn't bonded yet, but it's very wind-packed, so crampons mostly scrape on rock. Towards the top wind picks up, but no big deal. Cornices form in small amounts because snow is like flour. No avalanches either, despite hurricane winds in recent days, still caution needed.mežikanje

Thanks

Mače or Bašelj, I assume. We went Sunday only to hut at Kališče, because hurried to Primorska for Sunday lunch.

On Saturday midday seemed Storžič right choice. From Bašelj to Kališče. Path icy in places, but can avoid annoying sections, above Kališče snow...all kinds...path well trodden, no issue, of course with winter gear. Here and there sharp wind howled, its force slightly softened by sun. But that wasn't too generous, at least afternoon. Views from top gorgeous. Since friend and I chose loop from Kališče to Bašelj, ended up quite delayed from car and only thank friendly couple for ride to our start and saved almost hour walk. Tour timed afternoon ensured solitude on mountain, met just couple people and our benefactors nasmeh

Did I miss sth, or blind or trolling? I see on third pic all have helmets on!!? Slowly this know-it-all on forum getting on nerves. Every page someone must preach about gear! Sure needs be, if nothing else for others safety and looks, but come on, people walk world as want. In Ljubljana also every without winter tires stop and lecture how dangerous winter? Seemed to me...

@RetardVeverca
yeah, the thing is like this... when @DexRi put the first pics up there were a couple of pics where they were already happily stepping in the gully without helmets.... that's why I wrote that and then all the pics were changed... so don't attack me if you don't know how things stand!!!!
@DexRi
if now that you've changed the pics you feel a bit bad... that's pretty bad!!!!
Yeah, and Ljubljana... luckily I'm not from Ljubljana... I'm a Storžič local!!!!

@Zebdi It was thrown at DexRi and those pictures I meant. With Kseni I see she didn't have it.

@snork As I say I don't support such tours without a helmet, but in the end it's each individual's decision, and sometimes it seems to me that on this forum it's just about who blames whom for having shoes tightened 2mm too little!! What does Ljubljana have to do with it? You probably have winter tires too? And probably lots of people don't have winter tires there? And you surely don't nag them about it! It seems to me that in snowy conditions winter tires are much more important, because in a possible accident you usually endanger more people than if you fall alone somewhere in the mountains. Anyway it doesn't matter, it was just an analogy for this obsession of most people on this forum against lack of gear. I don't want to argue, since that's not the purpose of this forum either, I just got steamed a bit because I see the same blame every day. nasmeh

Come on, calm down a bit and think what I wanted to say. I say I support helmet wearing, I definitely wear it and recommend it to all, but I'm not guilty if someone doesn't want to wear it and is a fool. That's all I said, if you can't extract the essence and purpose from the text I can't help you....

Although today's weather forecast wasn't the nicest, my son and I still decided to try to climb to the summit of Storžič. We parked at the end of the road in Laško, put on our backpacks and hop up into the fog towards Kališče, where the sun already peeks out a bit. Thermometer at the hut showed -12, in the hut it was nicely heated and properly hot. No wonder, the hut was completely full of people, so there was no place to sit. We drank tea standing up and quickly headed further towards Bašeljsko sedlo. There we put on crampons, stowed the poles, and continued the path with ice axe in hand. Among the dwarf pines fog and cold wind still accompany us, but when we cross to the southern slopes under the summit the sun shines again and the wind calms temporarily, although on the summit it picks up strongly again.
The path to Kališče is slippery in places, higher towards Storžič the snow is frozen, mostly hard, but crampons grip excellently.
Ultimately a nice day, and we were most happy about the snowflakes that were falling denser and denser on the drive back towards eastern Slovenia.nasmeh

Today with group to Storžič, we were first breaking trail, rest at hut, crazy wind up top and also below, to saddle and summit I was treading, sinking to waist, thanks to me now there's track and ascent safe with proper winter gear, crampons and ice axe mandatory as there are lots of icy sections. On summit not so windy, nice views and recognized someone around 70 who appears on hribi.net sometimes. Nice sunny day passed, phenomenal company and definitely want to go with such again. Been to Storžič this winter already.
