Interesting this nature... 8 days ago such winter, today real "summer"...

Did a nice circular tour on Storžič. Through the gully up, back via Škarjev rob where need to cross some hard snow.

Is there still any snow on the path through the gully?

Through the gully the path is bare and dry, only at two places you make a couple of steps in the snow.

Today through the gully to Storžič. Path completely bare, no snow. But very dangerous because some rocks are covered with thin layer of ice and quite slippery. Need to grip more with hands. Wire also frozen. No sun there and when you reach top of gully it feels like from winter to spring. Returned via Škarjev rob, where except three crossings path bare. Footprints in snow and can cross with little care. At top pleasantly sunny, little wind, upper descent "Siberian" wind felt like -20 at least to me

On Thursday, a visit to Storžič, fantastic weather considering how it was in the valley, path from Povelj over Javornik meadow up the gully to the summit to get the lungs going, as the previous poster wrote, snow only as a sample in the shady spot, at the top all effort rewarded and my opinion is that the mountain is not crazy nor those who go up, but those who don't go to enjoy these beauties

Yesterday I visited Storžič - start Preddvor. 4h ascent and descent with short breaks. From hut onwards quite a lot of snow, especially last part to summit, icy. Path due to snow and ice poorly visible. Also wind was a problem but worth it for some views. Recommend crampons and ice axe. Regards Mateja

Storžič today in sun, wind, ice and snow, conditions fully winter, without crampons, ice axe, helmet, no go. Back from Kališče to valley trodden and real ice rink, when ascending first to Bašeljski vrh, back to junction then to Storžič summit. Ljubitelj gora, congrats. I was today on Bašeljski vrh and already there at the very top extremely windy. Storžič looked nice, not too much snow, probably more problem wind and ice? Saw at least six heroes advancing one by one to summit. Undoubtedly nice achievement today.

Another video from Sunday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64ah6Hpyc70 Adding one big surprise on the path itself, I got company right there between Bašelj Pass and Storžič, further down, two older hikers, I kinda had @turbota in mind when he wrote me to find company on the spot, and it came to me by itself or I came to the company, and we went to the top together, later someone else joined us for a few minutes but he hurried ahead. Such a day as it passed I won't forget it, I just couldn't thank the hikers enough for such great company, that feeling that reaching the top is also a big success for someone and you're not alone...feeling during ascent and descent was calm, relaxed,...thanks for the company fellow hikers.

Today an hour earlier from work. Home quick into winter boots and off on the path. Of course forgot the headlamp in the backpack ... On small backpack hang ice axe, inside crampons, half liter drink, extra windstopper, hat, gloves, helmet, balaclava. That should suffice. To Bašelj Pass nothing new. Start of ascent to Stožec peak pure ideal (nice track, firm squeaky snow). No problems higher on ridge. When track should turn left under perhaps the hardest detail on this route (exemplary steepness left along ridge) it surprises me - track suddenly ends. From backpack take second ice axe and try to kick into exposed traverse. Well, kick ... ice axes sink into powder dry as flour! Meanwhile, it got windblown. Wade a bit further, sinks over knees. Feeling is anything but pleasant (like nothing holds). Pondering. If I go on, I'll be wallowing like ... And on descent night might catch me. In just headlamp light it could be a bit too risky. Decision easy. Approaching Kališče I freeze over beautiful sunset. Already worth it for that ... After every turn in mountains one asks the same: "Did I do right? Should I have anyway ... " In such dilemmas must admit you reacted correctly as you are. Best regards.

2 pics from here the seriousness starts, path then turns right, perpendicular up, a bit higher another steeper ascent, but by pics it looks quite windblown...last time better.

When at home you ponder if you did right, remember it's better to turn back once too often than once too little.
