Toll booths on Vršič and in Vrata

Maybe you'll understand someday that it wasn't about using private road with barrier, but about use and parking on state roads and passes. I clearly wrote that I was in Austria only a few times and don't comment on conditions there.

Yes, yes, yes - I will, I will understand, however you want, or you want ...
Well, that's how it is, everyone understands in their own way.zavijanje z očmi

Obviously today truth and understanding have many faces. Jokingly I'd say that every eye has its own "painter". nasmeh

In the Carnic Alps there are no barriers and nothing is paid anywhere. Exception is some valley in the Furlan Dolomites, the prealpine world of the Carnians. Dolomites are another story, but even there it's free in many places.

In the Dolomites I parked for free even at such a crowded tourist spot as Falzarego pass. And at starting points for Civetta, Pelmo, Sorapiss, Schiara, at Lunelli hut, in San Martino di Castrozza. Actually, besides the famous road under Tre Cime, the only place I remember relatively high parking fee is Fischleintal valley in Sexten Dolomites. Just that.

I already said I wouldn't repeat myself... but I have to again, because wrong info about paid parking in our neighborhood keeps repeating.eek

In the last 5-6 years I've walked and driven almost all Dolomites. In that time I've spent 50+ days there. I paid parking exactly 1x. And even there it wouldn't have been necessary if we'd walked another 3/4 hour more (round trip), but that day we already had 11 hours of walking.

Interestingly, even inside tourist towns like Cortina, Canazei... there are free parking spots. Can you imagine that at Bled?

Those who write that everything is paid are mainly those who know these areas extremely poorly. They go to a few most crowded tourist spots, preferably drive to the highest possible point, and there sometimes really pay. Or they are extremely unresourceful, and between two 200m apart parkings choose the paid one, even though the other is free velik nasmeh

If Slovenia had ten Vršičs and a couple extra Bleds and such, they'd probably charge a bit less too. velik nasmeh

oh, when will us "little Slovenians" admit that in certain "segments" we absolutely "jump the queue"!!!

If Slovenia had 10 Bleds there'd simply be 10x more local sheriffs living off "charging for air". mrk pogled

Seems people are quite satisfied with them to elect them. What are you crying about now?nasmeh
Most interesting is they're introducing double billing practice. We're not only shortchanged around Maribor compared to "pure-blooded" Mariborans who pay less. nasmeh

Dear,

All of you arguing forget one little thing, vastness. When reading your comments one gets the feeling that by paraphrasing 50 km² (square kilometers) = 5000 km² etc. Towns, ranges are diverse and so are related measures.nasmeh

Barriers in Vrata are supposed to start in September. More on changes here:

Why parking in Vrata at all then? 25 euros daily? Only for chosen ones, elite?
So valley for excursionists who don't stay long, mountaineers will go elsewhere. Frequency of valley drives won't decrease. Those going short time should use public transport. Another misguided green move.

First and foremost shame for the state to give management of state road, built with state money, to insatiable gluttons whose only aim is cashing in. To those we all pay via registration.

On parking fee height local sheriffs discuss now, not worth wasting words. Things are already repulsive.

So that means only the wealthy will drive to Vrata. And of course spend in the huts. The world is upside down here. Everything for the elite. jezen

If the implementation of the regime in Vrata valley goes in the described direction, it's a shame. And sad. For serious hikes, the public transport schedule in season is surely too late and such prices are really not acceptable.
Simply, the daily parking fee could be normal and when all parking spots are full, no one could enter the valley until someone comes back...my personal opinion.

For me, the bus is a real alternative only if the dog can enter too, our faithful companion on hikes. Maybe banal for some, but that's how it is ... If there's no such option, we won't go to Vrata. Sad.
Parking fees are rising everywhere, even in home areas (Prtovč). I don't know where all that money ends up, certainly not in maintaining access roads and parking lots. zmeden

It seems they want to keep parking space for tourists who will spend in Vrata. I don't know what more they can spend than hikers in that available facility.
And the kiosk there in front of Aljažev dom is really a mirror of our Slovenia. Under the highest mountain, where crowds of foreigners flock, such a poor offer. Hard to choose a souvenir there. Too many available.mežikanje
Oh, they can spend on parking and thus remember the Vrata valley under Triglav forever.
