Today on Tolminski Kuk from Savica and past Dom na Komni. Ascent over Škrbina and Zeleni vrh, descent via Planina Govnjač. Until 12 o'clock fog, wind and cold, especially from Škrbina onwards, later it cleared up. You can feel that winter is at the door. Path OK.

Has anyone gone or knows the conditions on Tolminski Kuk from Tolminske Ravne past Migovec? Is the summit part icy?

Above 1500 meters there's nothing to do without winter gear.

Winter gear mandatory, wherever you go above 1500m, it's pretty icy, own safety first.

Since yesterday's afternoon weather forecast was still quite promising, we started our ascent from Ravne to the pasture on Kal a bit later than usual. Already about 100m below the pasture it started raining on us, so we sought temporary shelter in the bivouac. Continuation despite occasional drizzling and poor visibility still seemed quite promising. Snow starts midway up the slope, on Migovec ridge knee-deep in places even more and breaks through in spots. Here fog started to envelop us, but it was still doable, when it started raining again at the base of Kuk, we turned back except for the two most persistent.
I take the opportunity to praise those (rumor has it they were cavers?), who nicely cut the brush along the trail above the pasture to the ridgenasmeh

Tolminski Kuk 6.2.2020. Besides T. Migovec, yesterday also to Tolminski Kuk. Path from Tolminske Ravne. To planina Kal. There we put on winter gear. Some new snow. But the warm sun is melting it. It sank through much less than last time. And walking was really pleasant. We met no one. We didn't know the snow paths to Kuk. But we said we would turn back if it wasn't doable. Last part to the top we went straight up and then along the ridge, where the summer path was visible where snow is melting. The exposed part is nicely visible. And when it gets warmer, all this snow will crash into the valley. On the summit somewhat cold. But beautiful views. A lot of snow was visible on the north side of Vrh nad Škrbino. Descent on the same path. From the top quite carefully, because the snow was softened. You can only wish for such a beautiful day and no wind on the path. And peace and quiet.
The bench on Planina Kal is snow-free.1
Icicles along the path.2
Here caution is needed.3
Nevertheless, the snow was not as crusty as last time.4
When the view opens up.5
On Vrh nad Škrbino.6
here we lost the path. Some cairns were helpful.7

Afternoon Tolminske Ravne up to Škrbina, then across to Podrta gora, Zeleni vrh, Tolminski Kuk. Crossed two-three short snow patches with ice axe, could do without, snow not frozen.

3.6.2020. Since the weather forecast was not the best, we still decided on a somewhat different approach to Tolminski Kuk. We had rain gear with us. Also ice axe just in case. But we used none of it. The sky was merciful yesterday. Although clouds covered Vrh nad Škrli or rather the saddle and then the entire ridge over Vrh Planje to Tolminski Kuk. From the saddle Vrh nad Škrli we went for the first time on this marked path. We started in Tolminske Ravne. To planina Kal on the usual path. We continued left towards Krn. But only to the bend where the path turns down towards the hunter hut on planina Dobrenjščica. Marjan found on one map a drawn path that goes above the pasture and later joins the hunter path that leads to the fort below the summit of Škrli. Last fall we had already walked there. This path, which seems very little used, is interesting. Climbed over some scree fields. Wires help. But quite overgrown at least at the beginning with brushwood. From Kuk we descended on the usual path past planina Kal to Tolminske Ravne. It added up to 17km and 1500m elevation gain. Also quite a few hours of walking accumulated.
In Tolminske Ravne we started hiking.1
At Planina Kal we turned left towards Krn.2
This mulatiera is scenic.3
Flowers along the path.4

Javorca can be seen.6

Hoping the weather holds without rain.8
The path is nicely laid.9
There is a bench by the path.10
And a chapel from 1924.11
This is the part where we went along the new path that very few use.12
But it is still visible.13
Across scree fields.14
Where there were demanding passages, they installed steel cables and wire ropes.15
Otherwise, the passage would be much harder.16
Caution was necessary.17
Because there was quite a lot of scree.18
Later we found a hunting trail that we knew from last year.19
Also had to go over a red-painted metal ladder.20
The rock holds well.21
We arrive under the saddle Vrh nad Škrlji, where we inspect the fortification, otherwise known from last year.22

Clouds began to gather.28
There was a lot of moisture in the air.29

Očak still without koprena.31
We continue along the ridge over Planja.32
Where the path is marked and dry.33
Clouds were racing the whole time during the ascent to the top of Kuk.34
The ridge is interesting.35
Nice views, even though there was no sun.36
This ridge is quite long.37
Without rain.38
The last part to the summit.39
It is quite steep.40
Just a little more.41
And both for the first time from this side on Kuk.42
We stay a little.43

This path I've watched many times across the valley from planina Sleme - nicely visible course; and last year I used it toonasmeh. This is definitely a hunting path, as usual you can't find the start if you don't know where it is because they have the habit of walking the start a bit differently each time. So there are very few traces and consequently no trodden beginningmežikanje, further on no more issues.

Mirank, this path above the bend that Marjan and I used before reaching the hunting trail was relevant long ago. Now it's overgrown with brushwood and damaged in many places. Otherwise an interesting path that was abandoned due to difficult maintenance. It's still drawn on some maps. Miri Once a border stone of the Rapallo border between the kingdoms of Yugoslavia and Italy. Today the border between Primorska and Gorenjska. No guard was visible. nasmeh

I don't know which path you call hunting, but I know there's a clearly visible path that zigzags up towards the bunker at the saddle of the mulatiera. The junction described by Mihelič is so overgrown that I couldn't locate it on the main mulatiera below near Dobrenjščica. Anyway, the lower part of that path is completely overgrown and it's no longer mentioned here on the forum. If you're going from Dobrenjščica up to the ridge, it's best (according to the description above) to use that scree until you get out of the brushwood. The path we're talking about was never in the PZS cadastre - let some local say more.

The hunting path starts on the Italian mulatiera a bit further from the Dobrenjščica hunting hut in the direction of Prehodavci and leads steeply towards the barracks. Its start is hard to find if you don't know where it is. Only higher up it becomes visible. Hunters don't like hikers walking on their paths and scaring animals, and they also have to maintain these paths. But there are individual sections of paths that once existed that are very overgrown with brushwood and practically impassable.

You can also reach the ridge below planina Dobrenjščica from the direction of pl. Polog, along the scree tongue, one picture when crossing the gully.
if you go up this scree you reach the ridge, but it is long1

Once beautiful but now overgrown mulatiera, if coming from planina Kal direction, continues horizontally at the place where the current SPP drops steeply down to the hunting hut Dobrenjščica and climbs up in beautiful now brushwood-overgrown gullies to the saddle Vrh skrli. On old maps part of this route is drawn as TZV1, which was in use until the 1976 earthquake. After that earthquake they rerouted to the current route due to damaged section, but didn't mark the path to the spring under the hunting hut, which once many years ago caused me in the heat when hiking from Krn to planina Kal to drink water from that reservoir in front of the hut where maggots were swimming. But the aforementioned route is well visible from Peskov...

Great that someone else says something about this path. We didn't know what condition it's in. Because if we turned back, we'd have to descend lower to the hunting hut. And probably lose an hour of walking. If I think about it, when I was pushing through the brushwood at that bend I didn't believe the path was traceable at all. Really a pity, because it's nicely laid out. That it's abandoned.
it looks better like this at the beginning.1

More than obviously it's not completely abandoned, because the brushwood doesn't rule it yet. But it's true you need to walk with eyes open, because besides everything there's at least one junction from it.
