Turkish Mountain

14 days ago I did a circular tour from Okrešelj over Turkish gully to Carinthian Rinka then to Turkish Mountain and over Kotliče and Kamnik saddle back to Okrešelj.
Just the path from the top of Turkish gully to Turkish Mountain and descent to Kotliče you can see on M-foto.si.

Are there any special features on this circular tour otherwise?

It was nice today on Turska gora, a little wind, a little fog and no crowds!
Waterfall in full size, not like on Saturday when the wind allowed only five meters from the top1
The sun will...2
No crowds anywhere, I'll just drink coffee.3

Also with friend we did a week ago the path from below Slap Rinka to Okrešelj, then over Križ to Rinko and back through Turski žleb to valley. Super tour, wonderful path, protections flawless... only bothered us extreme strong wind with strong gusts to top and on top and fog getting thicker on descent. Otherwise two kitties early playfully accompanied us at shoeing, pulled laces, jumped in car... but... fun nice start at 5.30 am nasmeh

Nice greeting

Yes I'd ask for advice regarding ascent to Turska gora. Interested how demanding is this ascent and if you need protection kit.
Let me say I was never in wall and my biggest achievement so far Mangart via relatively easy Italian route.
Ask for your opinion if Turska gora seems suitable to you for first such feat and if suitable from which side to ascend and which to descend.
If this route not suitable please advice which could be regarding written

Thanks for your advices and opinions

Best

Before you get lecture tell, from which side would you go up? From north or south, secured or not? If you type into trips search Turska (not Turška!) gora, this portal already offers quite some answers. Then ask further, right? nasmeh

Thanks for the answer.

Up probably via Žmavčarje - has someone been there lately and how is the path for down? I don't know, ask for advice. Can you advise also on ascent direction?
Don't know this mountain, any advice welcome.
And this interests me: how exposed is the path because I have slight vertigo problems trying to overcome them.

thanks

Path over Žmavčarje without protections (except one short jump not exposed). Otherwise steep unmarked but nice followable to bivouac. Read description, no problems. Return same path, shortest. Longer variant this side over Gamsov skret (not rec for descent), or Sleme to Kokrsko sedlo then down. That long, do loop back to start. Check map, see where. Also that path except short no protections. Self-belay no sense on those bits.

Thanks for the answer. What about the reverse variant up through Gamsov skret and down through Žmavcarje, what is it like and approx how long does it take?

also interests me if you maybe already went up the Turski žleb and how demanding that path is

Best thanks for the help

If you have problems with vertigo, it's very demanding. You can find everything on the forum, even photos for a better idea.

Through Gamsov skret the path is orientation-wise a bit harder, at the passage of the ledge it's also exposed. Without experience or someone who knows, not recommended. Why not go to Brana for a start?

Ascent via Turski žleb is demanding, but if you use a via ferrata set it's immediately easier (psychologically). For the first time let someone accompany you who has done this path and is at least a bit experienced. Descent then possible via Kotliče to Kamniško sedlo and from there back to the car. That's a circular variant and requires quite some fitness.
Decide based on your experience and let someone accompany you who has experience with such paths.

Thanks for all answers

Mrs Lidija, how about the path to Brana, is it much less demanding?
I look at descriptions and pictures but from them it's not exactly clear to see and imagine the path

Thanks for the help

If you want to go to Turska gora, the easiest path is through Žmavčarje to the bivouac via path Skuto, then straight to the marked path and direction right - past Turski žleb towards the summit.
Regarding Brana, easiest access from Kamniško sedlo, where you start in Kamniška Bistrica, but this path is harder than the previously described to Turska gora, it's partially exposed, well on one shorter section. Hope I helped a bit, although the question was for Mrs Lidijanasmeh (on the forum there are no ladies and gentlemen,)

Start from Logarska dolina late around 9am to Okrešelj where I sit a bit then straight on towards Kamniško sedlo.

Path first through forest then drags like guts over scree to the wall entrance. Secured path not so hard but quite exposed. Even when the iron ends, exposure up to the junction at sedlo doesn't let up. There it starts blowing strongly, fog also appears.

Due to fog I miss the marked path over scree under Brana and end up on the lower one, where there are already some footprints in snow. I walk carefully and only when fog clears a bit, I see I've gone wrong because I spot signposts above me. Carefully climb up scree to junction, well if I'd gone straight I'd probably hit the path to Kotliče too.

Towards Kotliče I hit two short 'scary' snowfields, but I expected them up to Kotliče at most, further on (due to the southern aspect of the path and visual assessment from distance) no more. Indeed some little snow only in Kotliče before famous pillars then nothing more (condition 23.9.2012)

From Kotliče on the nicest and technically most interesting part begins. First cables over pillars then some quite exposed cables further then crumbly and exposed section practically without protections (though occasionally needed just for security against slipping). Well then I reach the famous 'bottomless pit', which I expected to be the hardest on the whole path but it wasn't so bad. Exit from it steep but short. Then to false summit, path goes on and drops to small notch between it and main summit then a few serpentines and I'm at the top.

There I was first (and probably only) that day to sign the book. Also on the whole path from junction to Kotliče path to summit and back I was alone, while neighboring Brana was besieged. Even on descent I saw people crossing scree under it.

Descent nothing special, didn't expect problems either. Really need to watch where exposed and unsecured, cables themselves no problem. From Kotliče on they go upwards anyway on return.

Before reaching junction I already hear descending from Brana. At junction now head to right path and carefully cross scree on predecessors' footprints in snow. Then to hut at sedlo and tea there. Mentioned group comes after me, well that was LG's group and his as I learn later here on this forum. nasmeh

Then head back to Okrešelj and to the whole valley pleasant solitude. Reach car just before dark, in Luče still for beer, in Kamnik for ice cream nasmeh

Start from Jermanca, I'm not the only one violating regulations.. already early morning crowd at parking towards sedlo and further to Turska gora, predecessor VanSims described nicely, just no snow otherwise I agree that protections could be at some places... weather nice, sunny just at summit a bit windy. All peaks had quite a lot of visitors, difference from weekday when I was alone on Skutimežikanje, today everywhere lively... On return I also go to Brana, where winds were stronger and fogs started pulling... descent to hut where big crowd, open till 14.10. and cars.. nice day spent in KSAnasmeh
