what happened today at Okrešelj? that helicopter intervened, probably not an exercise in such visibility. Okrešelj

Today early morning start at Rinka waterfall, ascent towards Okrešelj, and continuation through Turski gully to the summit of Turska Mountain. We returned via Kotliči back to the start. Weather was excellent, path through Turski gully interesting, towards Kamniško sedlo through Kotliči quite a bit nasty and unpleasant, but downhill towards Okrešelj better again.

Today I made it to the top of the Turkish gully. Snow untrodden, at Okrešelj 50cm, in the gully varies from 20-70cm. Up to the big boulder in the gully without using crampons. Further on lots of cornices. Exit from the gully to the ledge covered with verglas (about last 10-15m). Further towards Turska gora (as much as I could see in the fog) very windblown, with drifts. For the summit itself, I think we need to wait for another snow dump.

What are the conditions like in the Turkish gully? At the beginning of the second week I'd go by this route. Interested if there's any snow? Thanks for comments.

On Saturday via Žmavčarji to Bivouac under Skuta, then to Koroška Rinka and further to Turkish Mountain. We descended via Kotliči back to the path at Žmavčarje. Descent along the ledges right (looking down) from Kotliški gully is exposed, in wet danger of slipping, here and there you catch a bit of path. Key spot - exposed and smooth ledge, partially secured with two pegs. No snow except a couple of non-problematic patches on the path. best regards d

Despite somewhat worse forecast today Klemen and I set off to Turkish Mountain via Turkish gully. Road was icy in the morning, so we left car 100m below parking in the dead end (we got far, really ) To Okrešelj without issues, from there to entrance to Turkish gully (scree below it) quite strenuous: track was windblown, when we entered the steep before gully and so had to make new one. Breaking trail to knees, if temps don't drop it'll stay like that. Whole Turkish gully nicely passable (and now trodden, behind us few more winter enthusiasts). From end of gully to Turkish Mountain full winter gear needed (best also in gully at least from boulder on). Otherwise wanted to go to Kranjska Rinka, but so many clouds and fog that way, decided for left variant. Of course treated ourselves to hefty portion of various detours and despite all made track also to Turkish Mountain. Conditions windy and cloudy, on return caught some rain drops. Lower part of gully from boulder on we of course "did" on the butt. Enjoyable despite not ideal conditions! More in photo gallery ... Extremely nice greeting from up there, Jure

On the first day of the new year something has to be done and my son and I took off after a sleepless night (well, we stole a few minutes of sleep) to Turkish Mountain through Turkish gully. Conditions good, in gully also some "hardness", further without special features, on summit a bit breezy, considering the date, quite surprisingly many hikers who at gully exit turned right too, hi, hi. Some snapshots: http://www.mojalbum.com/mosovnik/turska-gora-01-01-2012

Yes, for example on Wednesday, Feb 22nd it looked like this.... From half to meter of new snow, in places wind-packed, sinking to the waist. To the boulder you trudge and trudge and..., then higher first about 50m filled across the whole width of the gully to the waist, higher quite blown to the side, towards the top hard frozen snow and ice. Just the exit from the gully and first 50m to Turska, bottom living ice covered with about 20-30 cm new snow, further somehow snow to the knees. Well such info was passed to us by Jože who was at the summit. Bravo Jože! Of course sincere congratulations for Bojana's feat, which as it seems promises a lot more!? Bojana, QUEEN!

This morning my colleague and I headed to Turkish Mountain. Real snow in the true sense starts just before Okrešelj. Snow conditions from there on simply fantastic....no sinking anywhere. In the gully itself similar conditions, just the middle part quite hard, but still good progress. The worst was the sharp wind, which however calmed down completely about 15 minutes after we reached the summit of Turkish Mountain. The descent itself also without issues.

Today similar conditions as already described (sergejjj ). Conditions these days really ideal (snow) for visiting this mountain. Snow doesn't sink. Also today strong wind that at times was moving you. Visitors few. Road in the morning on some parts very icy so careful. lp

Today early morning started from Rinka waterfall, over Turkish gully. First was Little Rinka, then to Styrian, Carinthian and Carniolan, and then back also to Turkish mountain and back over the gully home. It was phenomenal. oh, and on the camera the time is wrong (1 hour ahead.)
