Beautiful day for a very nice hike. Descriptions are the same as in the guidebook. The waterfall is Rinka. Best, Andrej and of course Janez

Yesterday (08.03.2011) I drove by car to the Planincev hut in Logar Valley, where you can park nicely. Then on foot along the torn and partly driven path. As already noted up to Okrešelj itself there are no major features, but caution because ice hides under snow in places. I chose Turska gora as goal, ascent and descent through the gully. Conditions in the gully itself are quite good, no major issues with proper winter gear. At the summit a wonderful panorama in almost calm. Perfect silence disturbed only by Slovenian army helicopter. And on neighboring Brana I spotted two hikers.

I read New's post and look at Jovan's picture and realize I should be there too. Right on that picture, at that time, with New. And what, my knee injury doesn't allow it . New happily conquers peak after peak (without me), sends me sms picture to figure out which peak he's on, and this time I figured it out too . And already waiting for the next one. Congrats to both for the conquered peaks, and safe steps to all. Giti

Congratulations Varaždin guys. I wish you better weather since you came so far. But that wine is from distant Tunisia??? Good luck!

Great Edina, can you say something more about the conditions? lp

Snow starts at the beginning of the avalanche gully, which reaches the monument; I got here before sunrise, hoping the gully would be frozen. It wasn't frozen; steps have been made, which sank on the way back. From the top of the gully to the top of TG it's hard-to-soft slush, which sank deeeeep in places. Caution is needed through the gully, because of thawing there's risk of falling rocks. "Early hour, golden hour" definitely holds for current conditions Good luck and lp.

Has anyone been to Turska gora recently? Interested in conditions, how much snow left, especially that part through the window (bottomless barrel), where snow can hold for quite a while. Otherwise we plan to go up end of next week. Thanks for any info. LP

Trobec anyway that part at the barrel isn't critical. Longest is then the snowfield when you come out of Kotličevi - under Brana then Okrešelj express also has a snow patch.. and somewhere else something will be found... suggestion - ice axe with you!!! Lp

Yesterday we had a great ascent to Turska gora starting from Logarska dolina. Path fine, except Turski gully. Up to halfway the fixed protections still under snow, scree on the right side in ascent direction dry, just below the exit you need to cross snowfield. At gully entrance we put on crampons, took ice axe in hand and up the snowfield. But the firm snowfields surprised me a lot, and it wasn't my first time in the gully, almost tucked tail between legs . And at least one ear and eye alert for falling rocks. When we exited the gully on return, a fairly big rock flew over the snowfield and shattered on impact with a rock . Back to Okrešelj same way up and attended short celebration for 14th anniversary of accident of five dead in wall rescue exercise. Morning cloudless sky, later clouded over and very importantly no precip. Views eye candy, as mists provided real show with covering and uncovering peaks in parts . Safe in mountains, LP, Giti

Urgently need current data on conditions in Turski gully... next week with mates we plan to go via the secured climbing path through Turski gully to Turska gora, wondering if path is normally passable yet or are cables still under snow, as written in post before mine (for date 11.6.2011)...or still need to take crampons and straight up the gully?

Secured path is already passable, but runs along the edge of the cornice because there's still quite a lot of snow in the gully. At top of gully need to cross small snowfield ca 10 m.
