Velika Planina

Yesterday's picked mushrooms gave us quite a lot of work, so we're only reporting today. Morning in the valley didn't look encouraging, but later it turned into a wonderful mountain day, even though it was more of a walk across the pastures from which the views of KSA peaks always enthuse. But we were disappointed by the attitude towards the environment of the local "weekenders" who use the orchard as a dump for waste. Besides mushrooms, we also picked up cans and bottles along the way that "nature lovers" leave behind. We think we did something useful for the soul and the environment yesterday.
Best regards and good luck!
A view that always enchants.1
No flowers, no hike for us.2
We also grazed, but only with our eyes.3
Apparently the cows don't like them.4
Soon the mountain pastures will end...5
...and flowers too6
We even find a marsh on the plateau.7
Oh, what I'd give to be on Planjava's summit now.8
Cows fill their udders, we our batteries.9
The larch just needs to change color for even more beauty to the eyes.10
One is left speechless.11
Mrzla gora in the background.12

Nice pictures as always dear otiv. You didn't forget our favorite flowers either. You captured everything from the candlestick through goldenrod to the cup-shaped gentian - Gentianella anisodonta. There are so many species of gentians that it's hard to identify the species exactly. Besides the cup-shaped one, there is also the early, Austrian, hairy, rough, Liburnian-only on Snežnik and delicate. Only with the fringed one we can't go wrong, because there's only one - dark blue - you photographed it last time. All other gentians from early - I photographed it this year at Češka koča to Austrian - on Pekol pasture, are in various shades of purple. Yours photographed, I think I took this year recently at Vodnikov dom. But the cup-shaped also has several subspecies. It should grow only above the upper tree line. Best regards.

Heading out today in the clear cold morning from Kranjski Rak (road ahead is plowed but quite icy) to Gradišče, somewhere to Jarsko dom there is about 30 cm of snow, further it's drifted into snowdrifts..

Today we escaped the foggy valley in the morning to Velika Planina. The sunshine warmed our bodies, clarity and peace our hearts. Our dog had a blast and romped around like it hasn't in a long time, as there weren't many visitors in the morning. Wonderful morning!

With such an encouraging weather forecast, it would be a sin to stay in the valley. Velika Planina is close to us and you can drive high by car to ease the way for my better half, who sometimes has minor health issues, but wouldn't miss a day in the mountains for anything. The morning frost greeted us at the first steps on the vast meadows of the pasture. Of course, it got warmer later, especially in the sun. The flowers haven't fully said goodbye either, as we encountered quite a few that further beautified our beautiful November day.
Cool morning greeting1

The pasture is again dressed in white. The valley was also dressed in white, but not snowy, but foggy. So after work I drove towards Kranjski Rak and since the road was plowed (at least at the beginning it looked that way, but later it was more driven than anything), a bit higher. Since I was already quite late, I quickened my pace and headed towards Zeleni rob to catch the sunset. It was worth hurrying, because the colors around the setting sun were wonderful. At that moment, the question arose in me if St. Nicholas hasn't started baking cookies already for next year nasmeh In the dusk I reached Gradišče and slowly descended to the car in the dark.

Sunny and windy today up there... Went from Jurček, a bit before Senožetnik snow starts, icy slabs under leaves so caution not superfluous... From Jarški dom on it's good to put on small crampons or spikes... Plateau heavily windblown, sun strong during day but wind added cold feeling... mežikanje
Mists are rushing.1
Still fog in the valley2
Packed snow and icy road3
On Gojška pl, all windblown4

Not much snow even at 1500 m. Road from Kranjski Rak to quarry a bit icy but salted, so no chains needed.
Snow on plateau blown away, path icy in spots, so little crampons really useful, esp. on descent.
Wind blowing like hell.
Even two cyclists persisted.
Morning not very promising.1

In the morning I decided for Velika planina based on cams. From Primož on it opened up showing blue sky. Over Pasje pečine possible without extra winter gear with proper caution. Windy on plateau but some cm fresh snow. Nice

Start parking at gondola station, then into Dolski graben. Aim was actually ascent to Konj, but on Planina Dol it was blowing so nasty we rather headed to Velika planina. Nice goal too, those fairy huts on top worth seeing sometimes. Warm in Zelena rob, then down (cough, with cablecar...). Path through ravine dry but slippery from leaves on slopes, from Planina Dol on snow that doesn't bother. If bit more, even less. No skiing cuz rocks sticking out, hardly any people seen. When it blew it was really cold, despite clouds still some views. Nice hike for such days.
At the starting point1
Planina Dol, herdsmen's settlement today empty and deserted, but still beautiful2

truly romantic cottage5
On the other side of the basin, no fog.6
View from Gradišče, the highest peak of V. planina.7
Friendly log cabin, excellent white coffee. A party is a party.8
Šimnovec, only the shutters rattle, otherwise it's empty and abandoned...9

Anyone have info how much snow on Velika planina? Enough for snowshoeing? Planning Stahovica - Gradišče route.

No, 120 is a bit exaggerated, unless you lie down.!! I went up today from Stahovica over Pasje peči to Gradišč. The path over Pasje peči is slightly harder due to drifted snow, occasionally it sinks to the knees, on top of Poljanski rob it is mostly blown away due to strong wind.

Today from Kranjski Rak in snow on the road with skis (cca 10 cm) of fresh dry snow, just right back for descent to the car.
Wondering if anyone has info if the ski area at Zeleni Rob is operating. I went only to Domžalski dom, the keeper there says he doesn't know how it is there. I heard from acquaintances that one part of the ski area might be operating
