Velika Planina

Katty, the path to Velika Planina from Stahovica is well marked, and trodden all the way to the top. No snow at all! I was up there yesterday and it's beautifully purple with crocuses everywhere.
Tomorrow the weather will be even better! No trace of winter left. Enjoy and happy holidays!

Maucec40, I'm in a dilemma whether to choose Velika Planina for tomorrow - worried it's snowy and muddy (should I wear hiking boots or are low hiking shoes enough). Which path do you recommend

put on sandals, nonsense you're writing, of course hiking boots, you never know when you'll have to fight off the hikers up there, hehe

Thanks maucec40 for this info. I'm quite surprised there's no more snoweek, since Krvavec and Zvoh are white. Tempted to continue towards Konj and Rzenik, but since there's lots of dwarf pines there, it might sink in nicelyembarrassed. We'll see on the spot. Anyway, I'll report back tomorrowsmile. Tnx again.

Both to the top of Rzenik and to Konj, there is a nice path from Planina Rzenik, without any dwarf pines. The path to Rzenik was probably cleared in 2011 (it looks like it), so no problems reaching the top. On Saturday it was like this: https://picasaweb.google.com/107783548072994072771/KonjRzenik21042012#

Velika Planina was especially beautiful yesterday due to the numerous crocus carpets and gentianssmile, which give the hike extra charm.
We started from Stahovica, stopped at sv. Primož and then continued to Domžalski dom on Mali Planina. At first I was surprised that so many hikers followed us, but in the end it turned out that this path, like the others leading to the goal, is quite crowdedbig grin. Quite a few visitors - old, young, we even met a young couple walking barefoot on the pastureswink. Must have been nice. Of course we went to Gradišče, where we basked in the sun rays. Instead of going to Konj and Rzenik, we explored the beauties. I had no idea Velika Planina is really that bigeeksmile....shepherd huts wherever you look. Ugh, how nice it would be to own one. Somewhere secluded. We returned via Pasje Pečine to the start.
This holiday was really well spent in good companysmile. You realize once again that up there we're all one little family. Really, it was nice.
Below some snapshots.

Today's family outing on "Velika" was just a stroll among the flowers. Nice!

Velika Planina, homeland of flowers,
its gentleness always calms a person.
With joy you look at the mountains,
wherever you look, you see flowers.

Hello.

I'm interested if anyone knows the prices of the huts on Velika and Mala Planina. Especially the overnight stay price. Is it possible to reserve a bed maybe?

best regards

In case you can't manage to check the PZS website and call the hut on the planina, there's really no help for you:

Velika Planina always delights us, today it was all strewn with yellow flowers and carpeted with fragrant primroses. Cow bells jingled as the calves jumped after their mothers. Our souls are happy, as we all together spent a beautiful day on the pastureland.nasmeh

Over the weekend I plan to head to Velika Planina with family and friends who also have kids around 9 years old. Interested in the nicest and at the same time not too hard path for people not overly mountain experienced, from the Styrian side. I add that we wouldn't go by cable car.
Thanks for answers and best regards!

Kranjski Rak - satisfies all your criteria, except that it's the most beautiful. That criterion is subjective. Good luck.
