Yesterday, 25.2., on a nice beautiful sunny and warm Saturday I headed to Velika Planina. Starting point: Kraljev hrib lower cable car station. I got ready and set out on the path through Dolski graben to Planina Dol and from there to Planina Konjščica on Velika Planina. The path was dry in the first part, just some ice on sections, so I used small crampons. Views on the pasture beautiful, people quite a lot. It was nice, more pics at this link.

Yesterday instead of Porezen we chose Velika Planina and we didn't regret it. From Kranjski Rak we went on marked path to Gojška planina, then to Mala planina, chapel and to Gradišče. Slight cloudiness disturbed views to Kamnik Alps from the start, but the outing was nice anyway. Snow almost gone on some parts, drifted on others. Finally we saw almost all of Velika Planina.

From lower cable car station to Velika Planina we climbed the hunting trail to Rigelj. Path snowy in places but passable without problems. But steep in sections and caution needed due to slip hazard. From Rigelj we continued to Gradišče, highest peak of Velika Planina, sat in the sun, then to planini Konjščica and Dol. Little snow, where there is, sinking to knees. Nice circular tour, recommend.

@ksena, thanks for this idea! nasmeh Hunting trail over Rigelj is gorgeous, today completely bare and dry. Only when we entered the Velika Planina area did the first snow patches appear. We too extended to Gradišče, then descended circularly via planina Konjščica and planina Dol back to the start – parking at the lower cable car station. Path to both planinas still quite snowy. Snow was frozen today and didn't sink in, where it has already been cleared it's icy. On the forest path under planina Dol be careful: under really thick leaf blanket (which you literally tread on nasmeh) hides ice you can't see… it slips in a moment and the fall can hurt – checked today twice zadrega. Otherwise beautiful solitary loop - up and down we met no one, just one chamois and one roe deer, and generally few visitors on Velika Planina today. Recommendation for this circular path holds from us too nasmeh.

How beautiful crocusesvelik nasmeh, once I brought some home with bulbs and planted them and now they've spread all over the slope. Where I pulled them they've spread 10x more.

For crossing Pasje pečine I warmly recommend using crampons...

@ksena - really excellent idea, which had to be copied on this beautiful day today. The path over Rigelj is completely dry, on the other side though the story is somewhat different. To Konjščica and Dol snow and ice are present in places, but non-problematic, snow doesn't sink in, ice can be bypassed. From Dol downwards there are quite a few ice traps under leaves - and that all the way to about 750m. On this section careful also because of falling rocks.

On Saturday we visited Velika Planina via the unmarked path over Rigelj. The path is completely dry, only above the tourist settlement towards Zeleni Rob there are snow patches. There is a lot of flowers in the lower and middle part of the path, especially cowslips (large primroses) and globeflowers, and also ramsons are already quite large. After crossing the fence, where it's usually all white from globeflowers and cowslips, the first buds of globeflowers are just starting to wake up.

No need to write a description today, because Gita already did. Up over Rigelj, down over Dolski Graben. Practically no snow left, but spring is already here, flowers and all. Ants are already busy too. Sharing impressions of a beautiful, interesting and solitary path.nasmeh
But I'm interested, has anyone recently gone up via Kuklarje?

Well today there was no more snow and the flowers are blooming again.
But it was very windy, there was also fog which slowly dispersed.

I'm afraid we'll be a bit short-changed this year for that real blooming and purple highland! The little roses are already more or less in bloom, weekend snow forecast... Maybe the crocus will defy low temps and give us some more joy... Who can understand this nature!
