Yesterday I was on the Great Peak. It was nice and sunny, but a bit windy on the top.

Very nice and cold weather. As soon as the snow starts the path is icy all the way to the hut at Kofce. From there onwards the snow is frozen. Nice path runs along the ridge to Mt. Kofce, from there left to Great Peak. Strong gusts of wind on the top, on return it was already pleasantly warm. Pictures taken with phone.

I'm interested in conditions from Kofce to Great Peak or to Kladivo. How much snow there is and possible avalanche dangers!

I went yesterday to Great Peak. It's trodden, on the ridge more frozen... crampons are not superfluous, otherwise just a bit more caution. Avalanche danger not big. With skis you can still go some way in the forest, but not much snow here anymore. Lp

Today 30.04.08 we started from Matizovec towards Košuta, but didn't reach it. Snow starts a bit above the Dom on Kofce. Weather was cloudy, so not much sliding. We got only to the border. We turned back because the fog was terribly thick (like swimming in milk ). Wind was erasing our tracks right away. The trip was otherwise very nice.

In the morning hours I started from Matizovec via Kofce to Great Peak. The path in the lower part is still wet from melting snow, but drying nicely. On Kofce it's real spring (crocuses, snowdrops and prickly Neže). Snow starts about 150m above them. Crossing two longer snowfields, great caution needed due to slipping. On the way to the top, snowy and bare parts alternate. From the ridge on there's still quite some snow, so careful. On Great Peak winter conditions still prevail, so crampons and ice axe not superfluous. LP Andrej

From Trzic through Dolzanova gorge, then at the junction along forest path to hut on Kofce. Weather was clear in the morning, a bit windy. Ascent to Great Peak is easy, on top traces of last snow, wind and cold strengthened a bit. Otherwise quite a lot of people and of course fully beautiful, which is typical for Karavanke. Nice day...

Road from Jelendol (Putrhof) to junction of roads pl. Kofce / pl. Pungrat is in very bad condition. Gravel road is heavily rutted in many places and full of large sharp stones. From junction the road is more or less good in both directions. Until road repair I advise against driving to the junction.
Otherwise today the whole ridge of Košuta was in fog, view only to Austrian side.

On Sunday we plan to go to Great Peak from Planina Šije. Maybe someone knows if the road to the pasture is normally drivable or what condition it's in? Thanks.

I can't say exactly how much snow is on Veliki vrh, because I was on Kladivo on 27.9.2008 and on Košutnikov turn on 28.9.2008.
But there's already snow up there, so we turned back just before the summit of Košutnikov turn due to snowy conditions.
Let me mention we're just "average" hikers

In my opinion only really fresh info would be accurate. Last Saturday I called Kofce as we wanted to go to Veliki vrh and they said little snow but path icy, especially from fixed protection onwards and need crampons. Planned with kids so cancelled. But this week it could change a lot as temps high. So I also ask for latest first-hand info.

Yeah, sure, weekdays no. Saturday would not be bad. You would sleep at home anyway and on Sunday we would also go on Vertovčevih paths. If diligent, could easily go to Čaven too. Let me know. Lp
