Hi, has anyone been to Veliki vrh in the last few days? What are the conditions?

Was it possible to get to Mrzli studenec by car, to Kofce quite an icy path. Nowhere anyone.

Towards Mrzli studenec the road in the morning was covered with snow (4.3), later already almost all clear. We left the car at the junction for across Dovžanko where we headed on foot to Veliki vrh. Start icy and some sections below the summit. Otherwise idyll. LP

On the last October day to Veliki vrh. Huge crowds. Day warm, sunny, towards summit windy, but nice that it cooled a bit. Views nice, to Očak. Paid parking under Matizovec, full day 4 EUR. At 8.30 still lots of free spots. Dom na Kofcah has fresh colors. Above hut via traverse path to summit, then along ridge to Kofce gora and straight down to hut. Path without special features. Lunch in mountain lodge, staff friendly, food excellent. Wonderful day! nasmeh

Yesterday (2.1.2023) we went to Great Peak via Kofce. Cloudy weather at the start with occasional moments of sun, snow starts only a bit before Kofce, otherwise a bit muddy. From the hut onwards practically only snow, but relatively soft and slightly south-facing, so we did not put on crampons. We walked on the already trodden path that occasionally sinks to the knees. Cloudy weather lasted until cca 1700m, then we started ascending into the cloud. On the ridge a really fierce wind was blowing, so we quickly went to the summit from which nothing was visible at all, and quickly returned down and boosted morale with struklji.

Summary:
- technically completely undemanding and safe
- snow slightly south-facing, mostly trodden, sometimes sinks
- crampons unnecessary (but probably wouldn't hurt)
- cloudy, summit in cloud and very very windy mrk pogled

Yesterday from Mrzli studenec towards Kofce to Kofce gora and continuation to Great Peak. Road OK, although on return in gullies at bends already a bit ribbed, cause bad drivers. Further path without peculiarities. Lots of alpine flowers and great weather, what more do we want?

Parked at Vrancka and in complete solitude past planina Korošica to the summit. Since everything was wet, the descent from the summit back the same path was demanding.
At Hajnževo sedlo I took a breath and went also to Baba. Descended along the ridge further to the planina, where no one was anymore.
Met a total of four female hikers, obviously autumn is coming. nasmeh

Yesterday from Mrzli studenec to Great Peak and Kofce gora. On return to the hut at Kofce, where the terrace was full, so got the last struklji they had. It was a nice day.

Today (25. 11. 2023) a bit more snow, but no problem. Snow for a sample, no winter gear needed.

Road Jelendol-Mrzli studenec is passable but bad, higher up on the flat there's snow-ice but not entirely, but can get there with winter tires to start. Past Kofce and normal to Great Peak, good conditions for walking, used ice axe, crampons stayed in backpack, some used them. Not cold, bit of wind on ridge. Back to Toplar and Kofce gora, descended via valley to lower path. Currently possible since not much snow and no real avalanche danger, because spruces and rocks stick out.
