Viševnik, Mali and Veliki Draški vrh, Ablanca

yeah really, we noticed shorter poles soon at the start of the ascent to Ablanca (ski ones), probably kids', covered with rocks so the wind doesn't blow them away.. Start is a bit crumbly, otherwise nothing special, few minutes and you're up. Too bad we ran out of time for Tosc too, but no biggie, we conquered more than planned and in five hours..

Katty did you hear some yodeling too? Otherwise we crossed paths with goats regarding speed and climbing. Hihihihihi :P It's true it would be a shame not to go at least to M. Draški vrh. It pulled us to the other three too. Looking forward to more such days. Yuhuuuuu.

13.11 Viševnik was great, no snow in sight anywhere, a bit slippery on some sections either due to frozen or wet ground, but nothing major As for temperature, for me even though I had 3 different jackets a short sweatshirt was enough (at 9am summit).. True I have a bit thicker skin. Best, Matevž

I join the above assessment of yesterday's situation on Viševnik, just add that the shady path (at least in the afternoon) over Kačji rob is more icy, with some snow patches. I went the normal one for the sun, then checked a bit further towards the saddle. In the shade it cools down noticeably.

Bravo Aleš, now you're slowly discovering what has driven me to our beloved mountains for many years. Nice pics, impressions probably even better. Best regards and many more such tours.

I'd ask if helmet is needed for the path to Mali Draški vrh, I heard it's crumbly, but we plan to go from Rudno polje via Viševnik, for safety, thanks for info, cheers

In my opinion a helmet would be a very smart choice, also on the part of the path that runs under M. Draški vrh towards Studorski pass, if you plan to do a circular tour.

We won't do circular, we'll leave it for spring, this time only Viševnik, Mali Draški vrh, thanks @gorski svizec for the advice, we'll take it, safety first, and best regards

It's a bit hard to stay home in the valley when we have beautiful weather and really, true mountaineers or those who at least care a bit about the mountains don't miss such days. Nature above 1500 meters offers us beautiful views of the surrounding peaks, but when we look into the valley we see how right we were. Our regular group also decided to head towards Viševnik and Mali Draški vrh. Start was at -6 degrees at Rudno polje, but that didn't bother us, nor the wind that accompanied us on the open, we didn't let it prevent us from reaching Viševnik, which was our first goal. Really beautiful views, on our daddy Triglav, on the ptarmigans that watched us closely and after a short stop we descended to Srenjski pass, from there we tackled towards Mali Draški vrh. Of course at this point I'd add that we stowed the poles and put on helmets, as the path was steep, rocks crumbly, and no markings were noticeable on this part. When you've ground your knees well enough you're already at the top and our effort was rewarded with beautiful views into Krma valley, towards Veliki Draški vrh further towards Tošč, of course I can't skip our highest peak which was like on the palm of our hand. When we look towards Bohinj valley and more to the right towards Jesenice and Ljubljana I felt sorry for those down there, as it was like they lived in eternal fog. After refreshment at the top of MDV we descended back to Srenjski pass and here turned right into the valley, where the path splits towards Studorski pass, Vodnik hut and towards planina Konjščica and hut at Uskovnica we turned left past and above planina Konjščica and back to starting point Rudno polje. Of course, as befits us Primors, after such a nice circular path, the decision was made to do a circular with the car too, of course with a stop in Zgornja Radovna, where in gostilna Psnak they treated us with their goodies.

On Friday we did the mentioned tour starting at the barracks on Pokljuka. It was interesting to climb all four two-thousanders, as the paths except Ablanca are not overly demanding. Although some paths to the summits are not marked, they are well visible. Mali Draški vrh is less crumbly compared to Ablanca and the path to it is less exposed. From Mali Draški vrh we descended back to Srenjski pass and continued on the marked path in the direction of VDV. Exposed sections were well secured. On the part where the path turns sharply left towards Studorski pass we turned onto an unmarked but well visible path to the top of VDV. During descent along the ridge, already near Studorski pass, the path is quite overgrown with low pine in some places, but that doesn't pose major problems. We continued to Ablanca, which has a short path leading to it, but mostly exposed, and in one part the passage for continuing the path is harder to see. Caution is needed on descent. Since the tour was long the path over planina Jezerca to Pokljuka dragged quite a bit for us. As for time, it's longer than written on the sign at planina Jezerca. On this path we met many hikers whose common goal was Triglav. More pictures from the path:

You mean this sign (30 min), which confused me too on the way back to Rudno polje. For a tired hiker who doesn't know these paths it's not pleasant, it can even raise doubt if he's even on the right path. It's time that the one who put up the sign also changes the wrongly written time. And what does that mentioned path to VDV represent for you for a 73 year old solo hiker, with otherwise rich mountaineering experience. This fall I plan to climb it, but haven't decided which path yet. Otherwise you can see photos from my ascent to MDV in 2010 at this link: https://picasaweb.google.com/105542164406791269945/MaliDraskiVrh#

I think none of the mentioned paths to Veliki Draški vrh is too demanding. The first (ascent) is more suitable if coming on the marked path from Srenjski pass, the second (descent) is ridge and starts at Studorski pass. The path from Studorski pass seems more uncomfortable to me, especially because of the dwarf pine. It's exactly that sign, we also thought it can raise doubts for hikers who don't know the paths, if they are even on the right path. Best regards
