Vremščica

Today we set off from the village of Gabrče to Vremščica. The path is almost entirely dry, just a little snow a bit below the summit. We descended to Senožeče on a path that was mostly snowy but trodden (up to 10cm snow). Sunny and warm day nicely spent by Esther and Tadej.

Hello. Since everyone needs a little rest, we did that yesterday too. Today we packed our backpack and headed to Senožeče, as the starting point for Vremščica, which we chose as our goal. We had barely started walking when 3 little donkeys came towards us, really behind the fence, and 3 preferred to stay by the stable. Past them under the warm sun, which occasionally hid behind clouds, we walked towards the summit. On the slopes of Slatna, a cold wind greeted us. It increased as we approached the top. When we reached the summit of Vremščica, an icy wind was blowing, forcing us to quickly leave it. On the way back, we noticed a large clearing of white snowdrops in the forest. After crossing a wide meadow (I think it's called mrzlišče), we rested on a clearing that was in the lee. There we had a snack and enjoyed the warm sunshine for quite a while. After the break, we headed to the car and happily drove back to Ljubljana. And one more thing "the summit logbook is completely full, so visitors are already signing on the covers. I hope the PD Sežana members will take this comment in good spirit zavijanje z očmi. Best regards Nives and Brane velik nasmeh

For me personally, Vremščica is most beautiful in April, when it's full of flowers. Then up there you find daffodils, crocuses, liverleaf..., I even found edelweiss off the path among the rocks. Best regardsnasmeh

As far as I know, there is also a path to Vremščica from the direction of Divača? What is it like? Does anyone know more about it?

The path from Divača joins the path from Gabrče.

Tadej, thanks. But what about the distance from the starting point to that junction? I can't find that anywhere...

Yesterday 1.5. we walked the path to Vremščica, specifically the one that starts at the turnoff for the village Volče. The path is not steep and suitable for families. On the meadows towards the summit, various flowers are already blooming. It was nice but unfortunately there was wind, though not too strong.

Autumn is also beautiful on Vremščica, shame it's becoming a target for people who even go on foot where the emperor walked.......zmeden

Vremščica was beautiful yesterday in the high snow and spring sun! But on the summit the logbook is missing. Hope they replace the missing one.

Today Vremščica had a completely different appearance. It was clad in an icy shell. I park by the main road, put on small crampons and head up the icy path towards the summit. The pines and bushes formed wonderful ice sculptures. Off the path to the right, onto the trail. Soon ice rain starts falling, but it doesn't accompany me to the top. Walking is not very pleasant, as the snow is covered with an ice crust that sometimes holds me, but most often gives way under my weight and it's quite unpleasant to feel the hardness of the ice on my leg. Of course, the bora accompanies me. And then thick fog joins in. Yes, knowing the path well, having a feel for it and being able to orient yourself is very useful, otherwise you quickly get lost on the white fields in thick fog. Despite all the inconveniences, the trip was pure pleasure - solitude, rime falling from trees, ice sculptures. And I even met two off-roaders.
As for the logbook on Vremščica, let me say that it's not missing because of PD Sežana, who takes care of it, but because of Vremščica visitors. Someone or some take a liking to it and appropriate it for an indefinite time. Last year they took five. But it could be found in the bushes right below the summit. As always, the PD Sežana markers will bring a new logbook hoping it won't get a new owner!

Hello!

Yesterday Vremščica was heavily visited. (There were also many from Trieste.)

The path (from Volče direction) was excellent up to the end of the pines, then 'in the open' the snow was covered by a 2.5 cm thick ice sheet that collapsed in some places. Uphill it was ok, downhill it slid. From trees chunks of snow or ice were falling, so walking was almost suicidal.velik nasmeh

Yesterday there was no book either. On Vremščica there are always problemsmrk pogled; but not because of those who care for the book, but because of some 'weird' visitors, for some time some had a mania to take coins from ballpoint pens and burn them, so it was hard to sign, not to mention the state of the book.

They say it will be better in the new year.nasmeh

I like this one: "They say it will be better in the new year," very much. I hope it applies to this year and all following years from those who "own" the logbook on Vremščica. PD Sežana will strive equally well to care for Vremščica. But what can it do against visitors who drive to the top even with off-roaders and motocross bikes.
Since this afternoon there's a new logbook and ballpoint pen at the top. Brought surely with hope it stays in place and serves its purpose. And what it's for, all summit visitors know.

Hey!
Wondering how icy the path to Vremščica is right now. Can you go without crampons?
Thanks for the reply.

Hello!

On Sunday (17.1.) I was on Vremščica without poles and in hiking boots. It went but some places quite critical.eek

Gotta watch it but doable. Recommend poles.

Yesterday we were on Vremščica. Snow like crazy average around 30cm but every few 10m sink to knees. So from Senožeče instead of expected 1.5h walked good 2h. Most time breaking whole snow. Recommend snowshoes much easier. Top windy but some sun and logbook was as it should.

Today it was pleasant on Vremščica. I started the ascent somewhere on the path from Škocjan Caves. On the southern slope the sun was warming nicely. Vast meadows rich in snow. Where the last snow has been blown away it is icy and caution is needed to avoid a slip. The trail is broken to the top. A bit windy - otherwise what would Vremščica be without bora. Yes, the logbook still serves its purpose - if only it stayed so!

Hello!

If you are heading to Vremščica these days from the Volc direction, I advise you not to return down the same path but to head towards Gornje Lezeče (then about 3km on asphalt to the starting point at Volčah).

Vremščica from the Volc side is covered by an ice sheet that does not sink and is very slippery, while on the slope facing Vremska valley there is wet snow that sinks but you have more chances to reach the valley whole.nasmeh

I haven't experienced Vremščica in spring yet, so I dedicated this afternoon to it. From Senožeče the path to the top of the 1027m viewpoint is well marked. Almost the whole way there was light drizzle from the clouds, but on the path through the green forest it wasn't bothersome at all. At the forest exit a carpet of countless primroses greeted me and one could say that Vremščica is a Primorska miniature of Golica. The meadow dressed in various colors... from yellow, blue, white, pink. Really nice. The view from the top wasn't the best. But the enjoyment looking at the colorful meadow was all the greater.
