Invited to Vremščica also on Sunday, 23 May, at 11 o'clock, when young and less young hikers will gather at the 35th meeting of young hikers.

Yesterday I was on Golica, today on Vremščica. Narcissi blooming nicely. It was wonderful. Lots of families with kids too. Weather right for such a walk. Next year definitely visiting "Primorska Golica".

Vremščica is a popular excursion spot and this morning it was particularly lively there, as the 35th meeting of young hikers organized by the youth section of the Sežana Mountaineering Association took place. At the special event under the summit, children's songs echoed, accordion sounds stretched by young hikers, and storytelling. The youngest hikers from kindergarten also took part, accompanied by parents. MRKAČ, maybe we met.

Excellent visibility today to Triglav, Stol, Storžič, Snežnik etc. Paths are trodden but without snowshoes it sinks a lot. Since there was glaze on Thursday, a 5cm ice layer formed under the snow in places, so I suggest at least crampons. Here's a pic, like panorama. How small we are Pardon Storžič is 2cm right of center on the second pic. Far right on the second pic is probably Raduha.

and not sure about Stol either, but I think I saw a black square under the summit - Prešeren Hut. Storžič is definitely there.

For some it's great luck that there's not much snow and so they do "a lot of good" for themselves, and drive "to the pines" right with the car. You can see that on one of the photos. Well nothing bad - photos are good and it wasn't too cold! Bravo Velesa!

Today on Vremščica strong bora. On top of Slatna say it was impossible to stand, while on Vremščica you can at least lean on the trig point pillar Really incredible how it pulls.

@basist: Bravo basist! Thanks for the pics, as on Vremščica my camera said empty batteries. Judging by the pics I think we met around 10:30, between Slatna and Vremščica, so our start was from Senožeče. Surely it was you. I had orange jacket, face mask, big backpack and you had prescription glasses. I noticed your footprints about where you took the first pic. Thermometer on top showed -5°C + wind chill. On top I met a hiker who came on foot from Sežana and continued past the church towards Volče. On the way back at 13:00 I noticed crust forming on snow, so it's freezing!

From Sežana to Vremščica is a bit long. That he'd go on such a "pilgrimage" I almost don't believe. Well maybe that hiker is just from Sežana?

I met him on top at 11:30. He confirmed he started at 7 from Sežana, so it took him good 3 hours to Vremščica. I believe him, as I do such "feats" occasionally too. Of course without backpack (he didn't have one) it's faster. Then I asked him a bit about gear he carries, to get some tip, experience etc. He carries only 0.5l bottle, which seems definitely too little to me, because even in winter we must watch dehydration.

Well, it took him 4 hours. I agree it's definitely too little what he has with him. But as long as all goes ok, it's fine. Otherwise many of us don't follow everything that would be good. lp

I plan a tour from Pivka over Vremščica, past Škocjan Caves to Divača. Can anyone tell how many hours walking that would be? thanks.

In Pivka you climb to Osojnica (half hour), continue to Vremščica (three hours) and then along SPP or Reka river gorge to Škocjan Caves (in both cases between three and four hours) and then to Divača (one and a half hours). The path is well marked throughout and suitable for everyone. A bit more demanding is the part in Reka gorge, but it's also extremely beautiful... and not too hard. There about 35m of cables along the wall and flat and approx 50m elevation stairs (careful when wet!)...
