On Sunday you could drive with car to the second bend, where it's possible to park, further on foot. Tonkina koča was open. With touring skis from parking lot few hundred meters not best, further ok.

Where else but to Kranjska Gora with already 4.5 crosses for snowy idyll.
Morning sun shone on snowy scenery of mountain ridges. Just a bit out of Kranjska Gora towards Jasna snow thins a lot. At Mihov dom already noticeably more, at Koča na gozdu even more, at Tonkina koča where I tramped to, enormous 170cm. Road plowed to second bend of Vršič road, there P for at least 12 vehicles. Further old high snow-covered track held high, so 4h walk quite strenuous. In between boot packs formed, sometimes ski tips stuck in deep snow. After noon larger avalanches released from steep gullies, elsewhere snow held. Above 1300m snow in couloirs dry, higher on ridges extensive wind slabs, on summits drifting snow. Due to avalanche danger shortened tour a bit. On descent snow on skins, so skied only some sections, time accordingly on return to Erika bridge, thick hour. The ambiance was a snowy fairy tale for bedtime. On way home stopped at Aljaž for a dark one, there chatted with helicopter rescue squad who knows Rebulla well, two with beards.

Vršič is closed!
Information is on AMZS website "road conditions". There is also explanation: "Avalanche danger". Information checked on terrain too. At the roundabout on highway near Tolmin and at military cemetery behind Bovec stands a sign, where yesterday still with red pen: "Vršič closed"...
