Well, if everything goes well I'll go to Vrtača on Thursday. I'll attach pictures. Nice to have seen what the conditions are like. Now I just hope they return my gear by midweek

Nice greetings. On Saturday I headed to Vrtača and I was a bit worried that it might sink too much under me (warm weather and I'm a hiker) in Suho Ruševje, but my worries were unfounded. In the morning it was nicely frozen, on descent around 10:30 it sank just a couple of times, nothing bad. Nice tour, recommend. Enjoyed, Damijan.

Today 15.6.- Vrtača let me close although briefly, as mists and clouds soon jealously covered her summit or view down. Just right. When I turned, the curtain fell, as if waiting for the only visit today. Conditions - before summit (in valley - on flat) still some snow, which we bypass without winter gear, otherwise the rest of the path completely dry. Some places somewhat damaged by avalanches, but seems partly repaired. No problems at all, just weather a bit unstable now.. Feelings, experience - something that just has to be experienced. In short - nice.

Yesterday we took son to Youth mountain camp in Završnica valley, I started from Tinčkova hut, over Zagon, towards Vrtača. Under Šija a light half-hour shower caught us, which we waited out in shelter of high dwarf pines. Path to top eroded in some places due to this year's rains and can be slippery in rain; advantage of south slope is that it dries quickly in sun and Karawanks foehn. Views from top after shower and in afternoon wonderful. Descent to Hut at source of Završnica, where the warden quite convincingly (and scared) explained that a bear appeared near Tinčkova hut a few days ago (three-year-old male...). We didn't meet it despite late hour and solitude - but it's years-long practice that furry ones appear on best terrains at start of mushroom season...

Today at 11 o'clock at Ljubelj parking (under Zelenica ski slope) I lost Nikon Coolpix camera (with buddy we did Vrtača anyway). In black-green case. Honest finder please call 040/210-440. Thanks, Anže Bertoncelj

On the summit of Vrtača the summit book was already full in July. I hope someone who will react reads it.

Today - Thursday: Unlike 15.6.09., today it was ideal - sunny, clear weather, so the view from the top was really excellent. What bothered a bit was the gusty wind on the ascent, while on the way back it was calm. As said - excellent conditions, path and rock completely dry, summery warm weather, few visitors. I had the feeling that it was almost the last "summer" day in the high mountains, where you could go in shorts and short sleeves. (clearly, at least here,.. in the Julians it's different). LP Heinz!

Hi. We also missed the logbook and asked about it in the hut, where we learned that those going next weekend to Vrtača via Dom na Zelenici should report first to the hut, where they have a new summit logbook prepared for Vrtača peak. Best regards, Mitja

Hi, today 20.10.2009 I was on Vrtača. The first box really has no logbook, a few meters ahead the logbook is quite "fresh", not even the first page filled. Otherwise weather fantastic, view likewise, a bit of care needed on descent. At some places small amount of snow melting, path therefore quite slippery. Cheers!

Yesterday a group of six of us was on the summit. We went from Ljubelj via Zelenica along the southeast ridge to the top. From Zelenica onwards we waded mostly to our knees, in the upper part it sinks variably. From Friday to Saturday ca. 15 cm of snow fell, below partially frozen. We stuck to the ridge as much as possible throughout. Back we returned via the south gully or its ridge. Weather and view excellent. Full winter gear needed.

Today a beautiful day presented itself which I used for visiting this beautiful mountain in the Karavanke. Conditions were almost ideal, no wading, the central gully just right frozen, not many people. The neighboring Begunjščica was besieged from all gullies they climbed up.

Yesterday, 1.5., visit of Vrtača from Tinčkova koča, past the hut at Završnica spring. From hut to Šija saddle already first snow which at places sinks even to knees. From saddle onwards via slide was quite "good" snow for walking. To ridge walking alternately snow and grass. Big caution needed at crossings - of course with all winter gear. On ridge much snow, but it can be seen that visits here are few (no tracks). Descent via gully allows fast descent, since snow, though already southern, gives good grip. On return met many hikers rushing to May 1 ceremony which they prepare every year in hut at Završnica spring.

I'm interested if someone was recently on Vrtača from Ljubelj. What are the conditions, what to watch out for, gear? We plan to go on Sunday if the weather is good with a colleague. LP Jernej

Me too interested, what is the path to Vrtača from Ljubelj. I'm sure there are still patches, but is the path OK enough to cross without crampons.

Today the upper part of the summer path to Vrtača was quite substantially snow-covered and that already well before the turnoff to Stol. New snow the sun is quickly melting, avalanche deposits are compacted and impassable without winter gear.
