To return the favor. Dry up to 1800-1900, then mud starts which doesn't hinder the path. No snow, or not worth mentioning.

Today hiked. 2-3 snowfields to cross above 2000m, but no problem.
Same for Zelenica - Begunjsica path, dry.
Wonderful day, no wind and sunshine. Route completed with ascent to Srednji Vrh. Excellent.

Hello. On Saturday we are thinking of doing a tour to Vrtača, does anyone have info on conditions? And maybe which approach would be most suitable? Of course with full winter ascent gear and if no severe avalanche warning. Thanks in advance.

Yesterday 28.12.2023 to Vrtača - Y up, left branch) SE gully down - from Ljubelj. From Ljubelj parking to Planinski dom na Zelenici less than an hour's walk on partly icy terrain. Not much snow but lots of ice, crampons recommended. To foot of Y east gully an hour's walk. Conditions in gully excellent. Altogether a good hour of good climbing up dry scree with intermediate ascent to Palec to Vrtača top. Gully iced. One ice jump. Track excellently done. Descent to Mala glava and down Left gully, upper part small rock jump. Mandatory gear: Helmet, ice axe (with two faster) and crampons! South slopes soften fast so descent over Mala glava not recommended.

As far as I know, there should be snow only a little below the summit but it shouldn't be problematic, more on Sunday when I check with my own eyes

2.6.2023 from Ljubelj to Zelenica then to Vrtača followed by descent over Mala Glava and ascent to Zelenjak and Palec. Path without special features, no snow on the path or where there is it can be bypassed.

Yesterday I took young hikers to the second highest peak of Karavanke - to Vrtača. They were here already on Saturday. They planned to go to Srednji vrh, but the weather was too poor and they went only to the hut at Završnica source. I took them to Vrtača yesterday. Vrtača had a lot of visitors yesterday. The path is nice - presents no problem. They greatly enjoyed that snow before the summit. At the top it was quite windy and fog crept in places. Despite not the best weather they enjoyed themselves and had a good time. We returned to Zelenica via the hut at Završnica source. In the Zelenica hut they cooked us a real feast. To Ljubelj we returned via the border path. Full of new impressions we said goodbye at Ljubelj and wished each other see you soon.

Going up from Završnica direction, road to Tinčkova hut drivable, barrier lifted, over Zagon reach marked path section from Zelenica. There meet mountaineer, thought descending but came after me. Real rarity someone else up so late. At top we talked. After sunset descend arrival direction. Path almost entirely dry except shady parts slightly damp.
