Last autumn from end of October to Christmas there was wonderful weather - dry and warm.
End of January and first half of February severe frost set in, well below minus ten for quite a long time. And dry frost, no precipitation.
In spring, end of March and early April, when usually half a meter or more snow falls and that means extension of winter season into May, instead of precipitation inversion came and it rained high up instead of snowing.
The winter coming will be whatever it is  as far as I'm concerned, a dog's one for sure

Everything holds true. Last year I did the nicest tours over 2000 m in November and early December, even two-day ones. There was no sign of snow, divine weather, and in the mountains at that time "settles" complete peace and quiet.
I agree, turbo, the weather will be whatever it will be, for me and my Pia too dog-like human.  Thanks for the blog, I read it gladly.

I heard on the radio that it should be repaired by the end of the year, but I doubt it: road closed in winter, no benefit because no toll collected, repair expensive and with recent floods nationwide other repairs have priority, gnarja no naje*al we got it, hope for the best, otherwise walk as once.

What should "be" in the hills in the last days? I don't understand what connection tomorrow's cloudiness has with conditions in the last days!
Yesterday low clouds base on Gorenjska at 1200m, afternoon low clouds dispersed, snow showers appeared. Check weather forecasts.

On Arso there's forecast for gliders and there it says cloud base should be somewhere between 600 and 1000 m.

What do you think, what will the winter be like this year? Given that it's the end of November and it's still quite warm, but that shouldn't mean anything yet. It worries me that there won't be anything like last year and the year before because I love snow ascents, I plan to start ski touring too, but it'll depend on the coming conditions. I convinced myself of the unreliability of forecasting the future one month ago when the snow line dropped below 500 m, then in 3 days it all disappeared.

I inquired with the competent ones and helped myself with maps and a cup of coffee.
Winter should last from 21 December to 20 March. In between lots of snow, especially where it snows plenty. Elsewhere less, might even be none on the coast. How high the snow line during snowfall depends on temperatures. When inversion comes, as happens every winter, rain will fall that freezes and then it will be pretty nasty, especially in traffic. Snow won't always be dry and powdery, sometimes wet and that will be the hardest to clear. Temperature-wise the winter will be very very cold for at least a few days and above average warm for at least a few days. Might be colder on the coast than inland or Prekmurje sometimes. Uncles from the background hinted that if too little snow for ski touring, go a few times to artificial snow fields if the skiing urge is too strong.
They also warned me, other uncles, that those three official winter months will pass quickly and it will be necessary to head to the mountains even in not the most optimal conditions if we want to do something nice and experience something nice.
Oh, and they advised to go slowly and smartly . . . . . .

In the winter forecast they also wrote that it usually gets dark towards evening. There will be quite a few days of such cold that tits will have hard beaks from the cold. There will often be such fog that tits will have to walk.

I checked some websites and all of them really predict not just a good winter but a century winter!(ciklon.si)!Winter 2012/13 should be worse (better) than that 2009/10, which you probably still remember. Anyway, we have reason to rejoice.
