At -78 even the best gear no longer helps But last year I followed a Russian expedition that tried a winter ascent on K2, and you really see what winter in Karakoram means And these were some of the world's best alpinists (among them the same climbers who in 2007 climbed the hardest route on K2 - straight up the west face) but they didn't make it in two months. I think some small team in alpine style will succeed (like on Gasherbrum II two years ago).
