No, it's narrow-leaved fireweed-Chamaenerion angustifolium, also Epilobium (source Zaplana.net). It has sepals and petals of the same color so the flower looks eight-petaled. Very similar to willowherb which has green calyx leaves. It is really used for medicinal purposes. It's not in the book Slovenske zdravilne rastline by Dr. Pavla Bohinc. But it is common at these altitudes-also at Ljubelj right at the parking for Zelenica. This is its flowering time. It blooms at the end of the second third of summer. Best regards.

Good morning! In the hills I've seen quite a few people, well, mostly men, picking narrow-leaved fireweed for tea for prostate problems. I barely convinced them they were wrong and they need to pick small-flowered willowherb /Epilobium parviflorum. Besides smaller flowers, green sepals, as Brane writes, the leaves on the stem are arranged differently. Once you know the difference, confusion is impossible. Otherwise better to get it at the pharmacy : https://www.google.si/search?gs_rn=25&gs_ri=psy-ab&tok=Nq0UeSLTLCXNcCZ0nyEWSQ&cp=11&gs_id=1f&xhr=t&q=epilobium+parviflorum&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.50768961,d.Yms&biw=1280&bih=939&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=sl&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=z6YRUrz5McXJtAau3oHgBA Best regards

I checked my medicinal plants handbook again and it doesn't have small-flowered willowherb either. In general, we've noted several times that the handbook is very general-starts with angelica-ends with sage.

Today to water in Stiško vas, because there won't be rain at all. Above Škerjančev I went looking for whorled gentian, which surprisingly I found last year at about 900m altitude. Now everything on that pasture is scorched by drought. Even in the nearby forest green leaves are falling off. On Kriška planina the cross-leaved gentian should start blooming, last time I already saw buds. At Hudičev boršt they told me they already saw Froelich's gentian on Mali Grintavec. I regularly find it first on the trail to Češka koča or Ledine below Umik Žrela on the scree.

Father Ašič in his book "Domača lekarna" mentions 11 species of willowherbs (Wikipedia 160-200), of which only two (hairy and woodland) are useless or even harmful. Both are up to 150 cm tall with large scarlet-red flowers and leaves hairy on the underside. They are similar to fireweed. The other willowherbs are much shorter and of finer growth and all are supposed to be medicinal. Their growth is very dependent on the habitat, as on moist soil it is much more vigorous than on dry soil. On Menina planina I found them in small depressions where they had very good conditions and were relatively tall and vigorously spreading. Usually they are 20-40 cm tall with one or more very thin stems.

Brane, supposedly around 28 different blackberries grow in Slovenia, which are hard to distinguish. It seems to me that on your first picture it's R.fruticans, on the second the blue-blackberry Rubus caesius. What do you think? The teasel is most likely wild /Dipsacus fullonum/. I often encounter it on some "dump site".

I forgot to ask if you've already gone to see the saxifrage you think is the beautiful saxifrage (Saxifraga cotyledon), somewhere at Jezersko. Well, surely not, since you would have posted...

dleskovec, nice little flower you've found. It could be the white variant /albin/ of alpine calamint /Acinos alpinus/. Brane is the specialist for those

Yes, thanks Apolonija; but still let's leave it to "specialist" Brane to add his bit.

I'm curious what he'll say. The plant surely belongs to the mint family. The flower is also similar to winter savory /Satureja montana/

Good morning! dleskovec, Apolonija is right that on your picture it's savory or calamint. The picture is of poorer quality, but I think the flower is well visible and savory has such a flower. White one I haven't seen either. I don't know winter savory. Haven't been to Dleskovec either. For the beautiful saxifrage I read somewhere, don't remember where, that it grows soon at the beginning of the path to Kozji vrh. It grows in certain places-characteristic rocks. I know it has a tall stem, inflorescence long, conical, erect. In the middle the flower is wine-red colored, otherwise white. Haven't seen it yet. Don't know what leaves it has. Didn't go to Kozji vrh this year, now it's too late anyway, because it grows lower and surely has finished flowering. Now I'll look for more autumn species-Froelich's gentian-always find it on the path to Ledine or Czech hut before Umik Žrela-quite common, cross-leaved gentian-saw it in buds on Kriška planina under Krvavec and hairy gentianella, which we then meet all autumn everywhere. Calyx gentianella is already flowering, but I can't distinguish species, because species have similar, if not identical flowers. They differ only in height of growth, density of inflorescence, calyx leaves, stem length. So basically I don't know if it's early or German, and some other. For teasel I just looked and wild or common-Dipsacus fullonum and hairy are mentioned.

Good and beautiful day, Mr. Velkavrh; thanks for your reply. Due to the wind the picture is poorer, but it's nice when a flower surprises and brightens the day, something special and rarely seen. The Dleskovec plateau above Luče and its peak Dleskovec (1965 m - that's for another forum) is really beautiful, especially in flowering time. You're invited!

Brane, hello! The beautiful saxifrage is really as you described it, except for the flowers, which are pure white. Those with wine-red are /most likely/ already horticulturally "improved". Did you mean that one on the lower picture, which is otherwise very poor? I've seen it in nature only on passes in the Swiss Alps, where the inflorescences hung so wonderfully from the cliffs. The leaves form nice large rosettes. I'm really curious if it grows with us. Shall we check next year? It flowers into August. Best regards

I saw that saxifrage at Alenka's and it was really like that - she photographed it in Switzerland.
