This is a link to a pdf file. If you can't open it, right-click on it and select: save as (Save As). This downloads it to your computer, then open it with one of the pdf reader programs (Adobe Acrobat Reader, Foxit Reader..etc).

Regarding GPS I have a problem too. I have Pumaphone phone, GPS works but doesn't show map. Also in cycling and hiking or running function route map most often doesn't download.. Does anyone else with same phone have same issues? Regards.

Given that last year I was a lot in mountains (mostly alone) and I'm also a statistician at heart I'm thinking of buying GPS. Anyone have Oregon 550? What experiences? Maybe recommend another device? Thanks

Hehe, already two statisticians at heart and two searching for a useful GPS (which software for mountains?).

While looking at the Oregon 550 I stumbled upon something new to me zeeeery interesting = geocaching . But to the Oregon 550 you need to add AdriaRoute and TOPO SLO. Which is an extra 200 eur..

Hi. I have GPSMAP 62s, or eng version. Battery works great. Machine lasts me two days despite extreme low temp at height over 4000m. When you really need machine, usually very very bad weather. Can't imagine machine just on display without buttons. Because at -20 and huge wind really don't take gloves off. If I damage case or lose, will definitely take same. Need it only for coordination in high mountains. On it I have only topo maps. all four alpine states. If you try a bit or call right people you will find maps without big problems....

@urarrr: would it be suitable also for route statistics? So I can load it to computer later?

All maps available on pastures, so just copy to SD card. Talking about Garmin handhelds with cartography support. I have Oregon 450 but screen seems too small to me. Cheaper device to me some Android phone. Have Alcatel OT-990 in action-bundle 35,00€ and bigger screen visible well in sun. Loaded Orux maps app on it, 1:25000 cartography (topo maps Slovenia excellently calibrated in Ozi format) got from Partis-u and converted with OruxMapsDesktop to format app reads. Map on screen same as paper one. Tested thing in field too, GPS very accurate, pulled track cc. 10 hrs about that much battery lasted without SIM. Orux maps program has also statistics more extensive than Garmin. My experiences once you have these toys use them some time, later very useful only where you don't know where forward or back anymore!

Can load already made routes, or record your own route. Has general record so recognized by many programs also google earth. Myself need it only in case of weather worsening where visibility drops to few meters. In case of crossing glaciers or some ridges important to me if machine leads back on my previous path or attached route. If off path few meters also sounds alert on too big deviation from previous coordinates.

Have Dakota 20, topo Slovenia and Adria route. Device in valley accurate to 3 meters. In mountains but when walking same path up and down path can record quite few meters different. That is in walls, steep terrain can be very dangerous. Have two AA aku 2700mAh batteries and two spares. One pair older batteries sometimes doesn't last whole day.

I also have Dakota 20 and I'm quite satisfied with it or it met my expectations. True, I use it more or less for "Tracks" or recording paths and later statistics, but still.. It was handy for me in the fog too. All GPS-es are off by a meter or two, so I don't pay much attention to that. Batteries? Hmm.. quite a day and a half, if you have battery saving enabled. I'd ask if anyone maybe has some map for mapsource from Italy and Switzerland, to contact me. Thanks and best regards

don't forget, GPS uses WGS84 ellipsoid for projection, while national projection is different. This shows in read altitude, I think on average ~40m too much, even more if you look at track statistics. As example, for last trip phone says a bit over 900m total ascent. When I entered track into geopedio, which uses our much more accurate height model, total ascent was around 1000m, approx 100m more.

As I wrote.. I found all on the net. It's true I searched quite long. If it helps, I can put my img on some ftp server. On my img are topo maps (Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and French Alps). In short, the whole Alps. Will check the disk at home for mapsource version... Hope today...

I have Garmin Etrex 30, quite satisfied. Loaded Topo SLO and Austria (Mapsource) for stats use Garmin program. Batteries (2 x AA) last 2 days, track works great. Bought case mainly for screen damage, plan to buy bike mount too. Think drawback is only bit small screen.

Kop32, my experience almost identical. True, on my SGS2 gps I use more as 'beauty accessory' on wild tours. Sometimes even pulls me out of trouble ...
