Äußerer Grieskogel is 3104 meter high peak and is part of the Natural Park Ötztal. The peak is located 0.6 km south-southwest of peak Nederkogel. The nearest mountain hut is Alpengasthof Sonneck, located 4km north. A little further is Zollwache. 2 km south-southwest from the summit there is glacier Stockferner, 4 km southwest from the summit there is also glacier Steiniglehnferner.
