What does the expression "last stamping" mean on Komna? It's that stamping after which only one more stamping comes :-))

The old Komna cats have internalized this rule long ago, the other members of our numerous team know it from this weekend onwards. In pleasant spring conditions - meaning: ideal for walking and very nice for skiing - following the principle of 'non-obligatory chaining of peaks', where each next peak is the "last goal of the day", every putting on of skins "last" and of course on the way back every stamping "last", we skied from the following peaks: Za Gradičem, Mahavšček, Vrh Škrli, dome under Mali vrh, Vrh nad Gracijo (from the ridge) and Bogatin (from the shoulder).

Komna is by no means for lovers of big slopes. When thinking about this gentle but very varied world from the valley, it can seem too little sporty for ski touring, even boring; but when you're there, walking from hill to hill, sliding between large sinkholes and numerous ledges, waving to the old larch in greeting – something enchants you there. There's no such world anywhere else!

Especially the second stage must have been divine
Exactly as you say. Otherworldly beautiful world! The terraces are especially fantastic, huge boulders, and of course the entire richly sculpted world, and ...

Time-wise, no panic: good 9 hours of easy "pace of two generations" (where we parents are now of course the slower part of the team velik nasmeh - only experience saves us: knowing the terrain, better choosing the micro line on this rugged Komna world, ...; otherwise the youngsters would easily overtake us). This is GROSS time and includes all stops, pauses, detours. Detours like in this case: first we wanted to go via the so-called 'Tom's traverses' on the western side of Kala (if you perhaps know it; named after Tomaž Vrhovec, the "ski touring father" of many of us), but it was too hard, so we turned around and went over the eastern summit of Kala (there 5 v.m. descent a bit steeper, 45 degrees, but with runout, no panic). The plan was 8 hours easy pace - and without detours it would have been exactly 8 hours.

For comparison, so these times are really leisurely: first stage 6 hours, last 6.5 hours (all gross of course; last includes also 45 min walking in Krma).

But the second stage is of course distinctly TRAVELING. Almost no skiing. Just walk, look and marvel ... mežikanje That's what I like best about ski touring!

There's still a huge amount of snow, so definitely doable this year, estimate at least another 2 weeks, maybe more. Only: Vogel gondola is in regular maintenance (for ca. 3 weeks), so it's sensible to skip the first stage; afternoon direct to Komna and then next day onwards.

Our team, a combination of youth and experience, spent three days touring on touring skis through the incredibly beautiful world of our central Julian Alps. The weather was perfect - warm, but not too hot. Conditions for hiking were almost ideal, for skiing a bit less (the last snow isn't fully transformed yet).

Descriptions by daily stages on the ski touring side Snežak:

D1 "warm-up stage" Vogel-Komna (satirical-critical account of the new Olympic discipline 'touring skiing')

D2 "stage of aesthetic highlights" Komna-Travnik-Prehodavci

D3 "skiing stage" Prehodavci-Kanjavec-Krma

I'm attaching some photos here too:

Fresh, sunny, real winter day! Snow from 0 to 5 cm, in drifted places considerably more. Today we shared the hill also with quite a few pedestrians and four-legged friends, there were also paragliding course participants, some mountain bikers and one motocross rider.

Spot on. The hill is completely dry from this (southern) side.

PS: The post is this time - on recommendation of precise observer (thanks!) - in the right place

Autumn is beautiful on the home hill too!

Short afternoon: Tuesday from Torka. The front was approaching with a strong southwest wind. Snow from that direction more or less only on the summit plateau, so all the more waterlogged

First time to Storžič from the village Povlje. This path doesn't reach the beauty of the other southern approaches (as much of it runs on - roughly carved - forest tracks).

Still it was colorful: autumn in full glow, colorful plays of clouds and sun.

On Javornik plateau a large herd of goats is still grazing.

I finished at 1800 m when I reached the lower edge of the cloud. There snow up to 10 cm (ascent o.k., descent slippery).

My pledge to bring back from the mountain (at least) three pieces of trash each time I barely managed to fulfill - on this solitary path obviously neither people nor trash (consequently) velik nasmeh.

PS: For a couple of years it's been known that this huge barracks was called the Triglav Barracks of Victor Emmanuel III.
The military hut Morbegna (which "cooked up" this mistake), was much further south, closer to Triglav. During the operation of the barracks, the hut had already collapsed.

I'll write to Rok to correct the entry.

Hi, on the ski touring side www.snezak.si find the post titled Bomba od Mihe Debevca. He's a super photographer. He was at VDV that day, contact him, maybe he caught you in the lens. Best p

One completely practical example: With the team we went on a three-day ski touring traverse across the Julijce. Start at Savica, goal in Stara Fužina. Since we had two cars, we wanted to drive one already on the first day to the planned goal (to S. Fužina).

But where to park in S. Fužina?

We played through all variants from the link parking in Bohinj

Variant 1: We planned to drive the car through the barrier towards Blato, park right at the bottom, near the start of snow, near Voje-Blato junction (to which, as we hoped, we would ski from Kanjavec). That would cost (3x15) 45.00 EUR. Not cheap anymore!
Then we found out the barrier is still closed; this variant is off anyway.

Variant 2: This was to leave the car before the Blato barrier. That's the cost killer! For full day (06-20h) you pay (14x3) 42 EUR. Meaning for almost three days around 100.00 EUR!
Additionally I checked at Bohinj Tourism what it means that the parking is closed at night? It means if the warden comes he can fine you ;-(

Variant 3: The cheapest option turned out parking Senožeta (a bit further from Srednja vas; under the ski slope), which is 2 EUR per 24 hours. Total 6.00 EUR for three days.
Of course that includes about 4 km (or 1 h) extra walking in ski boots on an already long tour.

In the end we went with "whatever happens"! Both cars left at Savica. Since that Friday there was no collector from Metropolitana d.o.o., which manages the parking for the owner (which is Archdiocese of Ljubljana), we didn't have to pay 10 EUR per car. This parking was free ;-)
Last day we skied down Suha quite late. To the Blato barrier we already had 20 min walking behind us. Since at the barrier we didn't get a hitchhike or friend ride, we called a taxi. He took us to Savica for 20.00 EUR.

The whole tour: unrepeatable!!! See post on Snežak (ski touring website)

I went 8 days ago from west to east, i.e. Krn-Bat.-VnP. Batognica is nicely trodden, packed. Most couloirs on the western side are out. Ice axe and crampons mandatory. From east to west the tour is two or three shades harder. Regards, p PS Check photo 10/12 on my post on the touring website Snezak. Closer photos I can send you only on Monday.

Raduha from the north?

After two years back in beloved Fužnarske: from Blato over Krstenica to Jezerski Stog, from fog to sun. It's a few days since the trip, so just two generally useful (sadly unpleasant) infos:

Bohinjci at the parking before the barrier (right after S. Fužina) now charge not just 3 EUR for whole day, but 1.50 EUR per hour! Optimizing/switching from more cars to fewer was still very sensible (you save nothing; but reduce the really wild load on upper parkings).

Storm damage remediation continues in full. Now not just the area above Planina Blato is churned up. On the contrary: Little roads and tracks continue high towards Krstenica! No more idyllic solitary hunting path! Orientation is much harder. Sincerely hope that after all sacks of money for storm remediation, some remains for fixing these radical interventions.
