Today I set off to Grintovec with two more colleagues. We started hiking around 2 (two) a.m. (no mistake; with full winter gear), from the cable car to the end of the forest the snow was quite firm, from the forest towards Kokrško sedlo and onwards of course mandatory crampons, ice axe. Almost no avalanching, pure silence, darkness and good mood. Towards the top it blew stronger and stronger, dispersing fog for us to see the sunrise. It started dawning slowly but we ascended slowly due to wind throwing snow in our faces. Hellish cold (over -20), when we arrived at the top but stayed only for a few photos, yet worth it. Didn't experience sunrise at top but ca. 100 m lower on return. Unforgettable experience, something wonderful, and of course very cold and windy.

Today my colleague and I were on Ojstrica. Started at 4am in Bela, via Presedlaj to Kocbek hut and on to the summit. Path took around 4h 30min, little snow to Prag. Towards Ojstrica summit mandatory ice axe and crampons to Škarje, where dry again. Little snow on top. Weather mostly sunny, fog and cloud layer around 2000m.

hey, I didn't mean that it's not needed, in winter it's essential, and I always carry ice axe and crampons. Just when I was up there was some snow, now almost none left, crampons not needed. In the western gully it's mandatory anyway, even due to the steepness. Nice greetings and stay safe.

hey, if you mean Storžič, it's like this, I was up on the summit on 2.5.08, ice axe needed up to about 150m below summit, now in my opinion no need, or rather as seen from below almost no snow, so go ahead boldly

Hi,
On Saturday we went to Kamnik Saddle despite foggy weather. No snow up to the shepherds, but it starts right a bit higher. On the forest path we met lots of small animals - mice. From shepherds up the snow was compact, no sinking, towards the top already quite suitable for crampons. That day we experienced snowfall, rain, strong and cold wind, then sun and calm. Towards midday (around 10am) it cleared a bit so some views were there. It was quite interesting.

29.3. My buddy and I headed for Stol. Due to the snow early in the morning we started hiking a bit higher from the parking at Završnica Lake. We continued on the road for a while then turned to the path towards the stone hut and then up to the summit. But already at the start hard work as no trail. We broke trail in wet snow getting deeper and deeper. On the way out of the forest breaking up to 80cm. So to 1900m took a full 4 hours. During the break and thinking we decided to turn back due to avalanche risk, wind, breaking, and sudden weather worsening. The decision was very wise as when we reached the car and half-hour drive Karavanke and Julijci not visible at all - thunderstorm. But no regret for ,,failure,, it was great fitness training.

hi .
Today my buddy and I were almost at Stol and then turned back due to slogging to our knees and collapsing and avalanche risk, and slight weather worsening.

Yesterday we headed to Velika planina. We set off only at 16h. We started at Kalcit. To Primož without problems because not much snow had fallen yet. A bit higher snow started accumulating and we slowly began wading, more and more. To Pasje pečine still fairly ok (wading to 30-30cm), later from Pasje pečine toward the top to Jarški dom up to our asses (ok50-60cm). After stubborn wading we finally reached J.dom but unfortunately it was closed, so we continued to Domžalski dom which luckily was open. It took about two hours. We refreshed a bit and immediately rushed back to the valley. The return path was a bit easier, because downhill you wade more easily. A few times we properly fell over and became snowmen. Over Pasje pečine full caution was needed as smaller avalanches had taken the path. Well, it was nice although dark and fun.

pikec19. 02. 2008 20:24:38
Yeah, I personally if I went I would ski below Kokrško sedlo all the way to the forest, it depends on you how well you master it, good luck

For skiing the conditions are good as tracks of skiers and snowboarders are visible. Not icy, I think the snow is ideal, at least for me it would be if I went snowboarding. So go boldly.
