Today up through Žrelo, path firm, dry and no issues. Descent over Škarjev rob somewhat awkward, whole upper part to the ridge sprinkled with dry powdery snow (2-10 cm). Slowly and with much caution it went.

Hello, does anyone have any data on the passability of the Frischauf or Kremžar paths?

Thanks for the visit and report. Path planned and maintained by the Ethnographic section of Podgrad cultural society. Unfortunately access to (rebuilt) first castle at owners not yet secured, as they want peace. Visits after path marking quite many. From Stari grad only few notches left, imagination needed here. Why not? [purpose more important than goal]. Further path has signposts or marks at visible spots, so no problems for experienced hikers. Don't know where you lost in quarry, but well-trodden circular path through it; must have been in a hurry, otherwise you wouldn't have missed it. Return path brings you to saddle under Stari grad, then continue to Besnica valley. Quarry path is side loop off main path, so some get confused. If you had guide folder (available at TK Pri Lazarju), no issues. I invite you to go to the second part of the path, it's also very nice, or come to guided hike 22.4. at 10am. Most optimal is as you already wrote. First Slemeno Peak, then same path to Vratca and from there to Hanza entrance. Shorter but steeper option: from Slemeno Peak cross scree under north face MM (some path made - more trail) to Hanza entrance (check panorama from Slemeno Peak). To VM from MM summit via gully in picture and same back to south path: http://www.hribi.net/slika.asp?gora=2062

Geppo don't exaggerate. From Ojstrica to Škarje in under an hour, from Škarje to Planjava max 2h. Total not 3h30min to fool around. Let's say with stops and if really slow max 4h.

I dare say average time needed between 2:30h and 3:30h.

Great news! Where did you hear that? I haven't found any announcement on the internet anywhere...

Here you have practically all the places you listed. Click on each and select the access direction. Also help yourself with the map and guide: http://www.emka.si/karavanke-planinski-vodnik/PR/32551,521

Nothing. Practically up to the last 3 hairpins no noteworthy snow by the road (individual patches), right at the pass the snow blanket by the road suddenly rises to over half a meter, but the road is passable without problem. Motorcyclists are already driving. Checked on Monday.

These poles are really awesome. Black, with leather wrist strap, and ancient ELAN logo on the grips... mine were in use 35 years (from father) at least 10x per season and were still perfectly straight (only a little of the baskets left). Last year I bent them in an awkward fall in the Dolomites (ran over them and fell over them) and finally broke them while "straightening". This year I broke some cross-country ones (on Viševnik) and bent last year's bought alpine ones (on Mali Mojstrovka). Can someone advise what's best to buy for ski touring? Buy new cheap poles and regularly bend/break them, or dig deeper in the pocket and hope REEES are higher quality? Are folding poles much less durable?

Today I was on M.M. There is more than half a meter of snow already at Vršič. A track and ski track have been made. On the scree there is more and more snow, in the notch about a meter. Along the ridge, which is quite corniced at the edge, one can easily reach the top. Snow is wet and rotten. Although snow on top is blown to gravel, there is huge amount again between big and little (a meter) down the whole flank to the notch. Super skiing, on "scree" super as all day in shade and snow more compact - but already quite ripped by skiers and hikers. Recommend, especially if it cools or new snow falls.

Yesterday I was on the Kofce. On Kladivo (2100m) there was snow up to the knees in places. The north face of Storžič, Žrelo and Škarjev rob were snow-covered so ice axe is obligatory, crampons practically not needed as snow is very soft and sinks to firm base.

Bojan, what's the condition of the path from the bivouac under Vevnica to the Jalovec-Mangart path and how long did that section take you? Lp and congrats for the nice tour!

Aljazek, we two followed you yesterday on the path through Grlo. Quite nasty searching for passages, and crumbly climbing section in Grlo...not very pleasant. Did you find a passage directly to the parking under Rinka? We two reached the road a bit lower (at farm tourism).
