Yesterday on Bovec Chamois Peak. Second entry in summit book this year. Below Luknja saddle still some snow patches. Especially below saddle top where fixed ropes are, lots of snow and must cross it as ropes are lost in snow. Towards B.Gamsovec summit another snow patch on the path, best bypass upper part (above snow). Hiker at summit descended via Sovatna, I back same way. Morning grey with light rain, afternoon nice day. Photos: http://www.petersfoto.si/thumbnails.php?album=datebrowse&date=2020-05-24 http://www.petersfoto.si

"peter"; nice tour and shots. Where'd you "hide" the alpine flowers?

Thanks! Flower season hasn't quite started in the high mountains yet. I only posted the long-flowering globeflower; there's plenty of it on the path. There will be more flower pictures in the future. Regards, Peter

Briefly on conditions via Sovatna to Pogačnikov dom and Bovec Chamois Peak. Snow starts around 1800m, still quite some. In the morning it is frozen, winter gear mandatory. Quick progress to Dovška vrata (descent express as snow patches become ski slopes ). From vrata to Pogačnikov dom avoid summer path, steep frozen snow patch right at the start lasts long, so from vrata right down into the basin, which is still well snow-covered. Less and less snow in the basin to the dom. From vrata to Bovec Chamois Peak some small snow patches at the start, no issue, path to summit dry, no winter gear needed. Pictures say more than a thousand words, video even more about conditions. >>Find it here<<

Hello! I'd be glad for information about conditions on the path to Bovec Chamois Peak - I'm especially interested in snow patches. Is the path already passable without winter gear? Thanks and best regards

The path through Luknja and Sovatna is passable without winter gear. There are some small snow patches over Sovatna but they are not problematic.

Yesterday my partner and I decided on Bovec Chamois. From the hut we headed towards Luknja and from there to the summit. At the summit we managed to, or rather we did since there were quite a few of us there, catch the views. Soon fog covered the summit and surroundings, but it cleared after about two hours. We descended to Dolška vrata, from there left to Kriške pode to Pogačnikov dom for a beer. It went down nicely. We returned to the gates and then through Sovatna to Valvazorjev dom. Path without any special features. But it was one of the nicest tours this year. We'll come back.

It was quite long to Valvasorjev dom though...

Sorry yeah. I meant Aljažev dom. I've mixed these two several times already. Brains...

27.7.2020 - Bovec Chamois My friend decided to hike the SPP from Maribor to Debeleg Rtič without breaks in "classic style" and finished it on Saturday - 26 days. I decided to accompany her through the Julians as long as time / strength / will lasts. From Dolica we headed in the morning towards Luknja. The path is still a well-preserved mulattiera, occasionally some cobweb bothers you, otherwise it goes fine. Most of the time we were in the shade, at Luknja the sun already greeted us. And some trash below the newly renovated Bamberg path. And a young curious Ibex (corrected), which showed no excessive fear. Turned towards Bovec Chamois and progressed nicely in the sun while listening to shouts (careless yelling?) from Plemenice. We reached the summit on time, and continued to Pogačnikov dom on Kriški podi, which we reached quite early. If we continued to Vršič we might arrive very late, so we relaxed a bit instead. Pogačnikov dom was a good choice: Young staff, great food, large portions and reasonable prices. Plus great views, nice weather and company of other hikers. And we stayed.

On the 4th picture it's an ibex, not chamois, as you write in the text. Chamois are much shyer than ibex, so I really doubt it would come that close Otherwise nice, realistic descriptions (what's OK and what's not), pictures say more than a thousand words The staff at Pogačnikov dom is top anyway, we need more like that in our mountains

Yesterday, 19.9.2020, somewhere from Pogačnikov dom on Kriške pode, Bovški Gamsovec and Luknja I lost a black down jacket in an olive-colored bag that blends wonderfully with the grass color. If someone found it and doesn't intend to keep it, I'd be very happy if they contact me. Otherwise, Bovški Gamsovec is WONDERFUL, as in Blaž's pictures and even more.

Hello, I'm interested how much snow (if any) is still on the route Zadnjica-Luknja-Bovski Gamsovec and on the route from Kriških podov to Gamsovec. Thanks
